Chapter 209 Don't delay my search for a new client
Yu Yuetong forced a smile, "Grandma, please don't say that, I..."
"I know you've always liked Aren," Old Madam Qin interrupted her. "Back then, everyone in the capital knew how you chased after him."
Yu Yuetong's cheeks flushed slightly, and she lowered her head somewhat awkwardly.
“But, that boy Aren only has eyes for that girl from the Shen family.” Old Madam Qin sighed. “After the girl from the Shen family passed away, his personality changed, and he doesn’t care about anyone anymore.”
Yu Yuetong looked up at Old Madam Qin, her doubts deepening. The Shen family girl? Who is she?
"So, I can only think of a way to get him to marry you." Old Madam Qin gave a bitter smile. "I hope you can become his virtuous wife and make him settle down and stop making a mess of things."
Yu Yuetong remained silent for a moment, processing the information in Old Madam Qin's words. So, from the very beginning, her fate was predetermined—to become Qin Reng's wife, solely because of Old Madam Qin's selfish motives?
A strange chill crept up from the soles of my feet.
"Grandma, what you've said, I..." Yu Yuetong opened her mouth, but didn't know how to say it.
"I know you might blame me," Madam Qin gently patted Yu Yuetong's hand. "But I hope you can understand the heart of a mother and a grandmother."
Yu Yuetong took a deep breath, trying to remain calm. "Grandma, I don't blame you. It's just that, right now..."
She wanted to say that she had no romantic feelings for Qin Reng, but she swallowed the words back. What was the point of saying that now? They were already married, and they would have to maintain this marriage for a long time to come.
Just then, Qin Reng's voice came from afar. "Grandma, what are you talking about?"
Yu Yuetong and Old Madam Qin turned around at the same time and saw Qin Reng walking towards them with long legs.
"It's nothing, just chatting," Madam Qin said with a smile. "Aren't you alright today?"
"It's nothing." Qin Reng walked to Yu Yuetong's side, glanced at her, and asked, "What's wrong?"
Yu Yuetong shook her head and didn't say anything.
"Since everything's alright, why don't you take Xiaotong for a walk around?" said Madam Qin. "She doesn't look too well, so please take good care of her."
Qin Reng nodded. "I understand, Grandma."
The two walked side by side on the path in the courtyard, and for a moment the atmosphere was somewhat silent.
"I heard about what happened last night," Qin Reng broke the silence first. "Are you... alright?"
Yu Yuetong stopped and looked up at him, her eyes filled with complex emotions. "What are you referring to? The diamond? Or Ji Momo?"
Qin Reng frowned slightly. "Yes, we have both."
Yu Yuetong sneered, "President Qin's information network is really impressive. You already know about what happened last night first thing this morning."
Qin Reng explained, "Some people in the company are talking about it, I only overheard it."
Yu Yuetong didn't speak, but just looked down at the stone path under her feet.
"That diamond..." Qin Reng was about to explain when Yu Yuetong interrupted him.
"What's wrong with that diamond? Is it very valuable?" Yu Yuetong raised her head, a hint of mockery in her eyes. "Valuable enough to make some people do irrational things?"
Qin Reng's expression darkened slightly. "Yu Yuetong, what do you mean?"
Yu Yuetong shrugged. "It doesn't mean anything. I'm just curious about whose diamond it is and why it ended up in my pocket."
Qin Reng stared at her for a moment, then suddenly said, "Are you doubting me?"
Yu Yuetong met his gaze without flinching. "What do I suspect you of? That you deliberately slipped the diamond into my pocket to make me the target of everyone's criticism?"
Qin Reng's expression grew increasingly grim. "Do you think I'm that bored?"
Yu Yuetong smiled but didn't say anything.
Just then, Qin Reng's phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, frowned, and then hung up.
"Who is it?" Yu Yuetong asked casually.
Qin Reng did not answer, but gave her a deep look before turning and leaving.
Yu Yuetong watched his retreating figure, a strange sense of irritation rising within her.
Just then, she received a message: "See you at the usual place."
It was still that unfamiliar number.
Yu Yuetong stared at the screen, her fingertips unconsciously tracing the edge of the phone. The usual place? She couldn't recall ever having any contact with this number before.
Just as she was about to ignore the message, a sudden nausea rose in her stomach, and she gagged twice, covering her mouth. The strange headache from that morning returned, and her mind felt like it was filled with mush. A blurry image flashed through her mind—under the deep red light, a man's slender fingers were stuffing something into her pocket.
"Tsk, could she be pregnant?" she thought to herself with a self-deprecating smile, but her fingertips involuntarily tapped the message.
In the underground garage of the villa, the neon lights outside the car window were stained crimson by the rain. Yu Yuetong huddled in the passenger seat, clutching the crumpled divorce agreement in her hand. The edges of the paper were soaked with cold sweat, and tiny black dots of ink spread between her fingers.
"When do you plan to sign?" Qin Reng leaned against the car door, rainwater sliding down his jawline and pooling at his collarbone. He swirled a glass of red wine in his hand, the crimson liquid rippling dangerously within.
Yu Yuetong twitched the corner of her mouth, "When you learn to use honorifics."
Qin Reng scoffed, "Honorifics? Do you think I need to be polite to someone who can't even take care of her own husband's health?"
"Oh?" Yu Yuetong turned her head sharply, staring intently at him. "Then may I ask, Mr. Qin, who slipped and fell in the bathroom yesterday, scraping their knee, and who—"
"Enough." Qin Reng interrupted her, slamming his wine glass heavily against the car door. "Yu Yuetong, are you only satisfied when this divorce is over?"
The garage was eerily quiet, with only the sound of rain echoing in the empty space. Yu Yuetong suddenly laughed, a laugh that almost brought tears to her eyes. "Qin Reng, you wouldn't be thinking of backing out, would you?"
Qin Reng's face instantly turned ashen. "Go back on your word? The word 'go back' doesn't exist in my dictionary!"
"Then sign it." Yu Yuetong slapped the divorce agreement against his chest, the paper making a crisp sound. "Don't delay me from finding someone else."
Qin Reng grabbed her wrist with such force that he almost crushed her bones. "Next client? You dare!"
Yu Yuetong winced in pain, but stubbornly met his furious gaze. "Why wouldn't I dare? These days, who says a divorced woman has to live like a widow?"
"You—" Qin Reng was so angry he couldn't speak, and could only forcefully pull her in front of him. The distance between them instantly closed, and Yu Yuetong could even smell the mixture of alcohol and anger on him.
"Ding--"
The phone vibrated in her pocket, breaking the tense atmosphere. Yu Yuetong seized the opportunity to break free from his hand, took out her phone, and glanced at it. It was still a message from that unknown number: "Want to see me? Wait at the back door."
