Chapter 220 I am your wife in name only!
She handed the document to Qin Reng, her fingertips trembling slightly. It was a photocopy of the Qin family rules that she had printed downstairs at the hotel. Originally, she had only intended it as a precaution, but she hadn't expected it to actually come in handy.
Qin Reng took the document, quickly glanced through it, and frowned. "What do you want?"
“It’s very simple.” Yu Yuetong looked directly into his eyes. “I want 10 percent of the shares in the Qin Group, and…” She paused, then said slowly and deliberately, “the ownership of this hotel.”
The air froze again. This time, even Ji Momo didn't dare to speak easily. She knew that Yu Yuetong was gambling, gambling that Qin Reng wouldn't break ties with her for a mere 10% share and a dispensable hotel ownership.
“Miss Yu’s appetite is a bit too big.” Qin Yu suddenly spoke, his voice as cold as a viper’s hiss. “Ten percent of the shares is enough to buy ten hotels like this.”
Yu Yuetong ignored him, staring at Qin Reng and waiting for his reply. She knew that every word she spoke at this moment was like walking a tightrope; one wrong step and she would be shattered to pieces.
Qin Reng was silent for a moment, then handed the documents back to Yu Yuetong. "Come to the company to see me tomorrow morning."
Yu Yuetong took the document, her fingertips touching the warmth of the paper, but her heart felt ice-cold. She knew that this battle had only just begun.
"Thank you, Mr. Qin." Yu Yuetong gave a polite smile and turned to leave the room. The moment the door closed, she heard Ji Momo's furious voice behind her: "How could you agree to that? Ten percent of the shares! That's outrageous!"
Yu Yuetong stopped, her back to the door, and heard Qin Reng's indifferent voice: "Give it to her, consider it... compensation for her."
Compensation? Yu Yuetong sneered. This word was even more grating to her than humiliation. She quickened her pace and fled the suffocating room.
Yu Yuetong returned to her room, threw the documents in her hand onto the bed, and slumped down like a deflated balloon. She closed her eyes tightly, trying to calm the turmoil in her chest.
"Ten percent of the shares, a hotel..." she muttered to herself, as if mocking her own naiveté, "You think this is a negotiation table? This is playing with your life!"
She scratched her head in frustration, feeling like it was about to explode. Qin Reng's last words were like a fishbone stuck in her throat, making her extremely uncomfortable. Compensation? He actually called it compensation? What was this? Was he trying to fob her off like a beggar?
Suddenly, a knock on the door broke the silence in the room. Yu Yuetong sat up abruptly, staring warily at the door.
"Who is it?" she asked irritably.
"It's me," Qin Reng's voice came from outside the door.
Yu Yuetong was stunned. Why was he here? Did he want to back out? Or...?
"Open the door." Qin Reng added when there was no response from inside the room.
Yu Yuetong took a deep breath, walked over, and opened the door. Qin Reng stood in the doorway, holding a thermos in his hand, looking at her expressionlessly.
"Eat." He handed the thermos to Yu Yuetong.
Yu Yuetong stared wide-eyed at the icy man before her, momentarily speechless. Was he... concerned for her? Or was he plotting something again?
"What? Aren't you hungry?" Qin Reng asked, raising an eyebrow when he saw that she hadn't reached out her hand yet.
"Thank you, I'm not hungry." Yu Yuetong took a step back, her tone distant.
Qin Reng didn't say anything, but simply placed the thermos on the ground by the door. "Suit yourself," he said, then turned and left.
Yu Yuetong watched his departing figure, her heart filled with mixed emotions. She closed the door, returned to the bedside, looked at the thermos on the floor, hesitated for a long time, but finally couldn't resist her curiosity and opened it for a peek.
The room contained three dishes and a soup, all looking and smelling delicious, making it incredibly tempting. Yu Yuetong had gotten up very early that morning to see Old Madam Qin and had been busy all morning. Now, smelling the aroma of the food, her stomach couldn't help but rumble.
She hesitated for a moment, then finally picked up her chopsticks, took a piece of braised pork, and put it in her mouth. The rich sauce burst in her mouth, and the fatty yet not greasy taste made her eyes light up.
"It smells so good!" she couldn't help but exclaim, and then she quickened her pace of eating.
After eating and drinking her fill, Yu Yuetong leaned against the bed, rubbing her round belly, feeling like she had reached the pinnacle of life. Just then, her phone suddenly rang.
She picked up her phone and saw a text message from an unknown number: "Meet me at the top-floor office of the Qin Group headquarters building at 9:00 AM tomorrow."
Yu Yuetong's heart tightened; a sense of foreboding washed over her. She knew without a doubt who had sent the text message. It seemed tomorrow's negotiations would be even more dangerous than she had imagined.
Frustrated, she ran her fingers through her hair, feeling trapped in a massive whirlpool from which she couldn't escape. Just then, a thought suddenly flashed through her mind…
On the other side, at the Qin family villa.
Qin Reng sat in the study, holding a document in his hand, his brows furrowed. Ji Momo sat opposite him, looking at him with displeasure.
"Are you really going to give up 10% of your shares to Yu Yuetong?" Ji Momo's voice carried a hint of accusation. "Do you know what that means?"
Qin Reng put down the documents and rubbed his temples. "I've made up my mind."
“But…” Ji Momo wanted to say something more, but Qin Reng interrupted her.
"There are no buts." Qin Reng's tone left no room for argument. "Although the Yu family has declined, a lean camel is still bigger than a horse, and the old man Yu's connections from back then are still there. I don't want to cause unnecessary trouble over such a small matter."
Ji Momo bit her lip, a hint of resentment flashing in her eyes. "Then why did you agree to give her the hotel's ownership? That was a gift you gave me!"
Qin Reng glanced at her, his eyes completely expressionless. "It's just a hotel, what difference would it make if I gave it to her?"
Ji Momo was so angry that she was trembling all over. She felt like a clown, performing a clumsy act in front of Qin Reng.
"Qin Reng!" She stood up abruptly, pointing her finger at Qin Reng's nose, and said, "Don't forget, I am your wife in name only! By all accounts, that hotel should belong to me!"
Qin Reng sneered, "Wife? Miss Ji, I hope you understand one thing: between us, there is only interest, not affection."
Ji Momo's face was pale, her lips trembled, but she couldn't utter a single word. She took a deep breath, trying to calm the anger in her heart.
"Fine, very well!" she said, emphasizing each word. "Since you put it that way, don't blame me for being impolite!"
After she finished speaking, she turned and left the study. Qin Reng watched her departing figure, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. He picked up his phone and dialed a number.
"Help me find out who Yu Yuetong has been in contact with lately, especially..." He paused, his voice low, "...people related to the Ji family."
