Chapter 368 - 217: Why Is Everyone Thinking About Me (Part 2)
He arrived at the lower-level training room. It was still occupied, so he walked to the corner at the end of the hallway to wait.
Before long, the hatch opened, and a dejected Wan Chen walked out.
Lan Hao’s voice drifted out from the training room, calling his name a few times, but Wan Chen didn’t react. Head bowed, he walked up the stairs.
A moment later, Lan Hao followed him out, a deep frown on his face as he, too, went up the stairs.
’Those two are still hanging out together,’ Su Chen thought, a little surprised. ’They aren’t cooking up some kind of scheme, are they?’
Only after they had both left did he step into the training room. He glanced around before speaking. "Copper Star, did someone just access my training projection?"
"Yes, Sir Su Chen," the indifferent artificial intelligence responded.
"Didn’t I issue an order forbidding others from accessing my training projection?" Su Chen asked with a frown.
The lights in the training room flickered. "I apologize, Sir Su Chen," Copper Star replied. "No such command has been found."
"You..." Su Chen was speechless. "What an artificial idiot. It was just last month..."
"I apologize, Sir Su Chen..." Copper Star paused. "A data rollback operation has been detected. It is possible this caused some data loss."
"A data rollback?" Su Chen froze for a second before it dawned on him. "Who initiated it?" he pressed.
"I apologize, but your clearance level is insufficient."
Su Chen’s brow twitched. "Then pull up the combat log of Wan Chen’s fight against my training projection."
"I apologize, Sir Su Chen. Sir Wan Chen has locked his combat log."
Su Chen was exasperated. ’So he can fight my training projection, but I’m the one who can’t watch the recording?’
"I apologize."
Su Chen couldn’t be bothered to argue with the artificial idiot. He turned and left, musing to himself, ’There can’t be many people on this ship capable of a high-level operation like a data rollback. Lord Qing Cang... Xia Jie...’
He thought for a moment, then decided against returning to his room. Instead, he wandered through the ship and found Xia Jie just outside the engine room.
"Sir Su Chen..." Xia Jie seemed surprised. He locked the engine room door behind him and asked, "What brings you here?"
"It’s about the training room..." Su Chen said, testing the waters.
"You’re here about the training room, too?" Xia Jie asked in surprise.
’Too?’ The word caught Su Chen’s attention. He understood now and asked directly, "It was you who performed the data rollback on the training room, wasn’t it?"
"Yes." Xia Jie nodded. He had a strange feeling about this but explained anyway. "Earlier, Sir Wan Chen said he’d lost some of his training data and asked me if I could do something about it."
"What’s wrong?" Xia Jie seemed to realize something. "Did the data rollback affect you somehow?"
"Don’t worry, I backed up all the previous data. I can restore it at any time."
"It’s nothing," Su Chen said, shaking his head. He then asked, "Did Wan Chen come to you alone?"
"Yes," Xia Jie confirmed. "But when I went to the training room, I found Sir Lan Hao was there as well."
As he recalled this, Xia Jie’s eyes flickered. Something felt off.
Su Chen now understood. ’That Wan Chen is pretty clever, thinking to use a data rollback. It seems he just wanted to fight my training projection. Was it because of something Lin Yue told him? But it doesn’t seem like he has any particular issue with Lan Hao.’
Now that he understood the situation, Su Chen was secretly exasperated. That trio—Wan Chen, Lan Hao, and Lin Yue—were certainly full of petty schemes.
After leaving the lower decks with Xia Jie, he finally headed back to his room.
’Something is definitely going on.’
Xia Jie watched him go. If only Wan Chen had come to him, he wouldn’t have thought much of it. But now Su Chen had shown up for the exact same reason, which made him realize that something was amiss.
’I need to see Lord Qing Cang...’ he murmured. As the Security Commander, it was his duty to identify and eliminate any potential safety hazards.
Wan Chen’s group of three came from powerful families, and Su Chen’s identity was special. Xia Jie couldn’t afford to offend any of them, so his only choice was to report to a higher authority.
He hurried to the upper-level bridge, where Lord Qing Cang was still studying a star chart.
"Lord Qing Cang..." Xia Jie approached and said in a low voice.
"What is it?" Lord Qing Cang put away the star chart.
"It’s like this..." Xia Jie recounted the entire sequence of events, from Wan Chen’s visit to the one he just had with Su Chen.
"Do you think there might be some underlying conflict between them?" he asked cautiously.
"Conflict? Over the training room?" Lord Qing Cang frowned. ’These kids are young. A bit of open and hidden rivalry is normal.’
The three of them had all aimed to be the "chosen one," and Su Chen had beaten them to it. It was natural they’d feel some resentment. He had anticipated as much.
As long as things didn’t get too ugly, he couldn’t be bothered to intervene.
But now, it seemed the conflict was escalating.
He also recalled Lan Hao and Lin Yue’s unusual attitudes toward Su Chen.
’Could the three of them be ganging up on Su Chen? Are they trying to set him up for a fall?’
Lord Qing Cang’s frown deepened. Su Chen was from a Desolate Planet, after all. There were many things he wouldn’t understand. Even with a resolute Heart, he could still fall for the trio’s insidious schemes.
’What if...’
"Let’s go have a look." With a grim expression, Lord Qing Cang decided to head to the training room first and see what exactly was going on.
Xia Jie quickly followed, staying close behind.
VMMMM—
The hatch hissed open. Lord Qing Cang strode into the training room and immediately issued a command, "Copper Star, enter administrator mode."
"Command received from highest-level authority, Qing Cang. Please verify biological clearance."
Lord Qing Cang walked to a device on the side and placed his finger on it. The tip of his finger split open, releasing a single drop of blood for the biometric verification.
The artificial intelligence’s voice soon sounded again. "Verification passed. Honored administrator, please state your command."
"Display today’s activity log."
VMMMM— A virtual screen materialized in front of Lord Qing Cang. A stream of data refreshed across it, and he scanned it with a single glance.
’Request to access Su Chen’s training projection and Lin Yue’s combat log: denied. That was Wan Chen’s command...’
’After the data rollback... Hmm? A request to access the combat log of Lin Yue’s fight with Su Chen’s training projection?’
’Another request to access Su Chen’s training projection, issued by Wan Chen...’
’An inquiry about combat modes... Lan Hao’s command...’
’...Half an hour later, Su Chen requested the log of Wan Chen’s fight with his projection, but was denied.’
Every command from every person was recorded on the activity log with perfect clarity.
’They’re fighting over a training projection?’ Lord Qing Cang sensed something was off.
At first, Wan Chen’s request was denied. Only then did he think to find Xia Jie and use a data rollback to bypass the permissions.
"He wanted to fight Su Chen’s training projection." Lord Qing Cang’s expression darkened. "How... petty!"
Xia Jie, standing beside him, felt his scalp tingle. ’That kid is really sneaky.’
’Su Chen must have refused a direct challenge from Wan Chen. Not one to give up, Wan Chen thought of fighting the projection instead.’
’But what’s the point of a fight like that, other than to vent his frustration?’
’After the fight, he probably went to Su Chen and said something to mock him. That’s why Su Chen came looking for me.’
"Wan Chen..." Lord Qing Cang snorted. "And to think I thought he took after his father."
He considered going to warn Wan Chen but then saw Lan Hao’s command again. It felt strange. Why would he inexplicably ask about combat modes?
His eyes flicked to the last entry in the log: Su Chen’s request for the combat record of Wan Chen’s fight with the projection.
After a moment’s thought, he issued a command. "Pull up the combat log of Wan Chen’s fight with Su Chen’s training projection."
"Understood."
As the one with the highest authority, Lord Qing Cang was authorized to view any and all data on the ship.
The virtual screen before them quickly switched to a video of the battle.
Xia Jie couldn’t help but watch as well. He wanted to know what exactly Wan Chen had done to make Su Chen come looking for him so quickly afterward.
On the screen, the virtual image of Su Chen took form. Lord Qing Cang couldn’t help but feel a flicker of curiosity; he didn’t actually know the specifics of Su Chen’s strength.
’Wan Chen’s foundational skills are a given. His family’s "Purple Sky Magnetic Pole State" is a Holy Profession that excels in combat. He’s probably already preparing for a third unique profession...’
