Chapter 467 The End (Part 1)
Her tone was as casual as crushing an ant; the moment the palace maid was stunned, she was gagged and taken away.
Everyone else kept their heads down, thinking to themselves that this woman's temper seemed to have worsened again after going back to her parents' home. They were practically living with their lives on the line.
Qin Wanyue took a bath and then lay down. In the past, she would go to see Jun Shuyan if he didn't come to her place, but she decided to rest for the next couple of days.
Jun Shuyan didn't have time to care whether she came back or went to look for him.
He had just dealt with Jing Yue and originally wanted to throw him in jail for a few days, but after the ministers pleaded for him, he could only release him after considering that his merits and demerits canceled each other out.
Now that he finally has some free time, he's going to check on Helian Yue.
In the imperial prison, Helian Yue sat cross-legged on the ground, with two iron chains firmly fixed to the wall.
Next door was Gu Yunqi, who seemed a bit more energetic now, but he was holding a mouse and talking to someone.
When he saw Jun Shuyan arrive, he pretended to be startled by the mouse and forcefully flung it at the newcomer.
"Oh, you little rascal, you scared me to death!"
The mouse flew out, rolled around at Jun Shuyan's feet, and ran away.
Although nothing was wrong, Jun Shuyan's face turned dark from the sudden fright.
"How dare you! You're making fun of the Emperor!"
Before he could even speak, the jailer behind him had already drawn his sword and pointed it at Gu Yunqi.
Gu Yunqi glanced at him lazily, walked to the corner of the wall, plopped down, closed his eyes, and pretended to doze off.
Jun Shuyan was not annoyed by this. Instead, he chuckled and said, "Junior Brother has quite a temper, but Senior Brother won't hold it against you."
"Wait until we catch Gu Wenhuai, then let's see if you're still so arrogant."
Gu Yunqi didn't react at all to his words, because he was sure that Jun Shuyan couldn't find anyone at all. If he could find him, why would he be talking so much nonsense?
Seeing Helian Yue in such a sorry state for the first time, Jun Shuyan felt a sense of pleasure, but strangely, he didn't feel much of a ripple in his heart.
"Many thanks to the young general for guarding the northern border for me. General Weiyuan, if he knew in the afterlife, would surely be proud of you."
Upon hearing this, Helian Yue opened his eyes and looked at him, his deep gaze making him feel uneasy.
Jun Shuyan sighed and said softly, "The young general surely understands my predicament; I had no choice but to do this."
Gu Yunqi spat on the ground as if he had heard the biggest joke in the world.
Helian Yue remained silent. Jun Shuyan, finding it boring, clicked his tongue twice and left with his men.
"Don't worry, I'll have someone take good care of the teacher and the old Duke. You two can just wait to die."
Gu Yunqi stood up after he left, reached out and patted the cell door next door. "A-Yue, are you alright?"
His voice was filled with worry. Helian Yue had been running a fever and bleeding a lot on the way back, and hadn't eaten or drunk anything since arriving here.
"fine"
Helian Yue replied without moving an inch; the moment he moved his upper body, he was in excruciating pain.
With nothing to do and nothing to eat, Gu Yunqi sat down and started talking to Helian Yue, not caring whether the other person was listening or not. There were only the two of them in the entire prison, so he wasn't afraid of being overheard.
He heard footsteps outside again, and quickly shut his mouth. Then he saw a face that looked like a dead man.
"cousin……"
Mu Lin'er's eyes welled up with tears as she quickly walked up to the two of them.
Gu Yunqi squinted and looked for a while before recognizing that the person was Mu Lin'er, but how did she end up like this?
Helian Yue didn't even open his eyes when he heard her voice; he looked like he was asleep sitting up.
Mu Lin'er's heart skipped a beat; she thought she was too late.
Gu Yunqi, standing to the side, couldn't help but roll his eyes and said speechlessly, "He's not dead, he's just too lazy to bother with you."
He looked behind Mu Lin'er and saw that there were quite a few people, but everyone's hands were empty.
"No sincerity at all! They came to visit me in prison without bringing anything!" He secretly scoffed.
Mu Lin'er was speechless for a moment, and a hint of embarrassment flashed across her face.
After a long silence, she spoke again to Helian Yue, "Cousin, Lin'er is getting married, and he is..."
"That's wonderful, then congratulations, Miss Mu."
Helian Yue interrupted her when she was only halfway through her sentence, because he really had no interest in listening.
Tears streamed down Mu Lin'er's face as she clutched the prison door, sobbing uncontrollably, "Cousin, you know I only have you in my heart. I never wanted to marry that bastard..."
"Alright, Miss Mu, Yue needs to rest now. He doesn't have time to listen to who you're going to marry."
"I wish you both a healthy baby soon and a long and happy marriage!"
Gu Yunqi became the ultimate mouth double, interrupting Mu Lin'er twice. Mu Lin'er's temper flared up, so she simply stopped pretending.
"I don't care about your congratulations, you prisoner. I don't even know how long I'll live!"
Looking at Helian Yue, who remained motionless, she sneered, "I only came to see you out of our past friendship. The Duke of Zhenguo's mansion has collapsed, what makes you so arrogant?"
"You're so spoiled! You don't know what's good for you!"
Gu Yunqi, who was listening nearby, was furious. When the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion was in trouble, the Mu family was the first to switch sides! They chose to marry into the Minister's mansion to protect themselves.
How dare you say that now?
This prison lacks everything except rats. He grabbed one and threw it at Mu Lin'er, which startled her and made her scream.
Helian Yue frowned, opened his eyes, and glanced at the people in front of him.
His gaze fell on Mu Lin'er, who was just looking at him happily when she heard him say, "Ugly, extremely ugly."
Everyone was stunned. Mu Lin'er pointed at Helian Yue, whose eyes were already closed, her voice trembling with anger, "Ungrateful! Unreasonable!"
Just three words, yet so powerful. Gu Yunqi laughed heartily beside him.
"Alright, alright, Miss Mu. A-Yue never liked you before, and he certainly doesn't now. Stop trying to get close to me, it's really annoying."
"Go back and obediently marry the son of the Minister's family."
Mu Lin'er stomped her feet in anger. She couldn't win an argument or fight back, so she could only glare at Helian Yue and turn away.
What's she doing here? She's so shameless!
To be honest, she really couldn't bear to part with Helian Yue. To be fair, his good looks alone were enough to make women swoon, and that was one of the reasons she came here.
Unexpectedly, this man is still as ungrateful as before. Oh well, she doesn't want to get herself into trouble.
Finally, it was quiet; Helian Yue was truly asleep.
Gu Yunqi had already had enough sleep, so he was catching mice next to him to pass the time.
The shadowy figure was already on his way back to the capital with Gu Wenhuai, while the others were ready to seek justice for the Duke of Zhenguo's mansion and overturn the verdict.
Most of the day had passed, but Wen Luozhi was still absent-minded. Although she knew that Helian Yue was not in any danger, she was still worried.
Seeing that she hadn't gone home by 7 PM, Wu Yao knew that she must be up to something again tonight.
"I already gave them a lot of talismans as hush money yesterday," Wen Luozhi asked with a smile, clenching her fist. "Why aren't you going back yet?"
Wu Yao tilted her head and looked at her with a bright smile: "Where are you going tonight? Take me with you!"
She stopped pretending and asked directly. Wen Luozhi had no choice but to write two words in her palm.
Wu Yao's eyes widened, and she glanced around before whispering, "What are you doing there? You..."
Suddenly remembering the gossip she'd overheard earlier that day, she stroked her chin and scrutinized Wen Luozhi. "You wouldn't happen to be..."
A bold guess popped into her head, but she thought about it and shook her head to deny it.
How could that be? You couldn't hit it even with eight hundred poles!
Wen Luozhi knew she couldn't shake him off, so she simply stopped struggling.
"We'll go again at midnight. Don't ask me anything else, just do what I tell you to do."
As she spoke, she casually pulled out a few talismans, which Wu Yao took and held in her arms, smiling foolishly.
"No problem, no problem, why are you being so polite with me? I'd listen to you even without this good stuff."
The two agreed on this arrangement, and in the middle of the night, without Wen Luozhi saying anything more, Wu Yao changed into a black outfit on her own.
