Chapter 464 There is Someone Behind
Chapter 464 There is Someone Behind
Xiang Yuntian pondered for a moment, then said, "Let's go over there and find out what's going on. That house was built there out of nowhere, and it's even separated by a swamp. I think there must be something else going on."
Bai Mengfei agreed without hesitation.
So the three of them took a car together to the place Kelly had mentioned.
Upon arrival, they saw an illegally constructed house by the river. To get close to the house, they had to cross a swamp; otherwise, they would have to use the boat on the river to get there.
But, wouldn't you need a key to use that boat?
Xiang Yuntian looked around and frowned. He said to Bai Mengfei, "This is troublesome! There's a swamp ahead. It seems it won't be easy to get across."
Bai Mengfei nodded silently, then made a decisive decision: "Call Captain Zhao!"
Xiang Yuntian immediately took out his phone and dialed Zhao Fei's number. As soon as Zhao Fei received the call, he quickly dispatched people to come. Using planks and other tools, the group carefully crossed the swamp and finally arrived safely at the illegally constructed tin shack.
The door was locked, with a rusty padlock hanging on it.
Zhao Fei immediately ordered someone to saw open the lock. With a creak, the door slowly opened, and Zhao Fei led Xiang Yuntian and Bai Mengfei inside.
Upon entering the house, a strong musty smell hit the nose.
"I never expected the musty smell here to be so strong," Zhao Fei said, frowning.
Bai Mengfei looked around; the room was filled with all sorts of broken and junk, but Jiang Shuai was nowhere to be seen. Just as everyone was about to leave, unable to bear the musty smell any longer, Bai Mengfei suddenly noticed a shoe sticking out from under a wooden board.
She immediately went forward, lifted the wooden board, and sure enough, found Jiang Shuai hidden underneath. Jiang Shuai's hands were tied behind his back, and a piece of cloth was stuffed in his mouth.
Bai Mengfei quickly reached out her right hand and touched Jiang Shuai's nose, and was surprised to find that he was still breathing.
"Forensic Doctor Xiang, come here quickly!" Bai Mengfei called out urgently.
With Xiang Yuntian's help, the two carefully carried Jiang Shuai out.
Zhao Fei quickly had Jiang Shuai lifted into a car and taken to the hospital for treatment. Afterward, he arranged for some people to stay behind and lie in wait for the suspect to appear.
The suspect finally showed up around midnight.
He was completely unaware that the police had discovered the place, and even less did he expect that the vehicles parked on the roadside belonged to Zhao Fei and his group.
"The target suspect has appeared!" a police officer reported in a low voice.
Zhao Fei immediately gave the order: "Get out of the car and surround him!"
"Yes!" Upon receiving the order, everyone opened the car doors and quickly got out.
Everyone rushed forward, and after a fierce struggle, they finally subdued the assailant. The assailant initially tried to resist, but by then the police had laid a trap, and he had no chance of escape.
After bringing the criminal back to the police station, Zhao Fei immediately began interrogation. However, the criminal refused to confess. Left with no other option, Zhao Fei had to bring in Bai Mengfei and Xiang Yuntian, asking them to produce relevant evidence.
Bai Mengfei took out a series of evidence bags and neatly arranged them in front of the criminals. She said seriously, "These are what we found in the victim Jiang Shuai's apartment. There are cigarette butts left after you smoked, your footprints, fingerprints, and so on."
Faced with overwhelming evidence, the criminal lowered his head and said with a wry smile, "I really didn't expect that you would catch me after all."
“There are many things you can’t imagine.” Bai Mengfei smiled faintly, deliberately trying to trick him. “The person who ordered you to do these things has already betrayed you. Now you only have two paths to take: first, become a tainted witness; second, be accused by him and face multiple charges of intentional homicide.”
The assailant panicked instantly, struggling against the handcuffs, and said, "No! I didn't do those things alone! I admit that I kidnapped and killed that woman, but I was ordered to do it by him!"
Bai Mengfei immediately looked at Zhao Fei.
Zhao Fei immediately understood Bai Mengfei's meaning and realized that there might be other people behind this case.
So Zhao Fei changed his interrogation strategy, laid out the criminal's information on the table, and said seriously, "Liu Fu, you are a foreign veteran who came back to break the law. Given your previous status and the crimes you have committed, you should know how serious the consequences will be, right?"
“I know I’ll probably be suspected of having many ulterior motives,” Liu Fu shook his head helplessly. “But I want to say that I’m doing this simply to repay a debt of gratitude. Because he helped me before, I can’t refuse his request.”
"What has he ever done for you?" Bai Mengfei pressed.
Liu Fu immediately replied, "When I was starving to death, he was the one who provided me with food and warmth."
"Is that all?" Zhao Fei asked in surprise.
Liu Fu nodded silently and said, "I knew you wouldn't understand."
Bai Mengfei quickly said, "I understand, but you must cooperate with us. If you cooperate, I can plead with the judge on your behalf to try and get a lighter sentence."
Upon hearing this, Liu Fu became somewhat agitated, clearly tempted. "I know killing is wrong, but I never expected him to want me to be his scapegoat!"
To cover up her previous lie, Bai Mengfei couldn't let Liu Fu describe the person behind it. Otherwise, once the lie was exposed, Liu Fu would no longer cooperate.
She pondered for a moment and said, "We already caught him, but he was released on bail after he implicated you. Now we can't find him or contact him. So, we need you to take us to him."
"Go find him?" Liu Fu frowned. "But we usually meet in a small park."
"So how did you contact each other?" Bai Mengfei continued to ask.
Liu Fu thought for a moment, then said with a look of shame, "He arranged a place for me to stay and would put money and letters in the mailbox from time to time. The letters would specify what he wanted me to do."
"Write?" Bai Mengfei keenly grasped the word and pressed for an answer.
If it's a handwritten letter, then the handwriting can be used to corroborate the killer's identity.
Unexpectedly, Liu Fu immediately changed his tune: "No, I misspoke. It wasn't handwritten; it was printed."
Bai Mengfei couldn't help but feel a little disappointed, but she still nodded and said, "Alright, where do you live? Do you still have those letters from before?"
"No, he instructed me in the letter to burn everything I had seen. Because he helped me, I consider him my benefactor, so I obeyed his every word," Liu Fu said.
Bai Mengfei had no choice but to settle for second best and asked, "What else do you know about him? Where did you meet? Did you know he was a serial killer?"
