Chapter 193: Season Finale 2/2 [SEASON ENDS!]
Mariam had a gun pointed right at her and she had no one to protect her but it made sense.
It made sense why someone was able to get so close to the wall commander without raising any alarm.
Mariam knew she had to keep her composure because one wrong move could end her life.
"You fucking bitch!" Jack cussed out, he was angry and Mariam understood why.
"You need to calm down Jack, there is still a chance for this to work out. I know you were influenced by Franklin but no one needs to know that," Mariam tried to de-escalate the situation.
She knew what could happen once someone’s back was against the wall but she knew that there was a chance to get through to him.
"It wasn’t supposed to go like this! It wasn’t supposed to fucking go like this! HE DIDN’T FUCKING TELL ME IT WOULD FUCK MY FATHER UP!" Jack cussed out.
Everything now made sense, this was why someone was able to get so close to the wall commander.
It was because it was his son that was the one that put him in the hospital.
"Jack put down the gun, we can talk about it..." Mariam tried to urge him but the young boy was frantic.
"It has all gone to shit... There is no point anymore," Jack said. Mariam didn’t like the sound of his voice and ducked behind the table as a bullet escaped the nozzle of the gun.
Luckily for her, Jack’s emotional state affected his aim, and he missed by a long shot.
"I really didn’t want to kill you but this was the only way to bring his vision to pass," Jack said but Mariam knew this might be an opportunity to get more information out of him.
"Jack, who is putting you up to this?" Mariam asked but the boy was too irrational to think.
"This isn’t what he promised me..." Jack mumbled to himself and there it was.
It was just as Bella suspected, someone else was pulling strings and it might not be Franklin.
This was far too elaborate to be Franklin and Mariam wanted to confirm it once and for all.
"It wasn’t Franklin, was it?" Mariam asked.
"Shut up bitc-!" Jack was interrupted as the door burst open but Jack quickly ran to Mariam to take her hostage.
The person that had breached the office was Dimitris, he heard the earlier gunshots and rushed here personally to make sure nothing happened to Mariam.
But for Dimitris to have been this close to her, it was clear that he was the one that he was already on his way to her location.
If she died, the possibility that this place would go to shit was high.
"STAY BACK OR I WILL BLOW HER FUCKING BRAINS OUT!" Jack threatened.
"Dimitris, do as he says..." Mariam urged him.
"DROP YOUR FUCKING GUN!" Jack barked at the man and Dimitris did just that.
"NOW YOU FUCKING DIE!" Jack barked and a loud bang followed with a thumping sound hitting the ground.
-
Jason was in the hospital, watching over Rachel and Lillian but the smell of smoke soon invaded his nostril.
Jason could smell smoke in the air but he didn’t know where it was coming from.
"Chronos, analyze smoke," Jason commanded his system and Chronos did just that.
[[The smoke is caused by a fire outside the room.]]
Chronos informed Jason but even with this information, Jason was calm.
He slowly removed Rachel’s head from his lap to not wake her up and walked right outside the door.
Jason’s jaw dropped the moment he stepped outside, he couldn’t believe his eyes.
The flames were consuming the wall but the danger of black smoke was that it could suffocate people in their sleep.
This meant that people had somehow died in this hospital and turned, the reason that they weren’t warned was because most of the people in here were dead.
Jason kissed his teeth and quickly rushed back inside, surprised that Mathias didn’t find a way to inform them but he could very well be among the casualties.
"Rachel! Wake up! The hospital is on fire!" Jason exclaimed right before picking up Lillian and throwing her over his shoulder.
Rachel’s eyes opened slowly and the moment she saw Jason and smelled the smoke, she understood the danger.
Rachel got up and quickly went to the door but Jason had to cut off a piece of his shirt and placed it around Lillian’s nose and instructed Rachel to do the same.
"We need to get out of here!" Jason warned.
"What about the others?" Rachel asked him, she knew that they needed to try and save the other patients.
"Rachel, focus on Lillian!" Jason knew he couldn’t save everyone but if he could save these two then he was satisfied.
"You’re right!" Rachel said and Jason rushed to the door with Rachel sticking close behind.
"Who would do such a thing?" Rachel questioned but Jason knew it couldn’t be a coincidence that the hospital was on fire the same day that Franklin was labeled wanted.
The moment Jason took a step outside, the feeding zombies abandoned their meals and rushed right towards Jason.
They had to walk through them to get to the exit, Jason knew he couldn’t fight effectively with Lillain on his shoulder but these zombies were like fodders compared to the ones he had fought.
Jason looked back at Rachel, she looked horrified but Jason knew he couldn’t have that.
"Look at me..." Jason muttered to her and Rachel did just that.
"I have got you..." Jason said with a bright smile and this soothed her chaotic heart.
"I need you to be brave for me right now, can you do that?" Jason asked and Rachel nodded.
She didn’t know what had changed but Jason was a lot more decisive than he was a few weeks back.
He wasn’t scared, there was no doubt behind his words and the look in his eyes, he truly believed that they would get out of this.
There were up to five zombies before them and with the smoke in the hospital, they could barely see because the zombies weren’t the only things that they would have to combat.
They had to find a way to survive the flames, Jason began to move towards the zombies.
Rachel followed behind him, the first zombie lunged towards him and Jason elbowed it right into the wall and the zombie caught fire.
Before Jason stomped the head in with his foot, that was one down and four more to go.
They began to cough because the smoke managed to affect their breathing.
Jason couldn’t breathe properly and this was the same Rachel and Lillian.
They needed to get out of here and Jason’s fractured hand limited what he could do with them.
Jason knew he had to do something reckless and the only thing he could do right now was activate his Nexus skill.
Jason gritted his teeth and looked back over his shoulder because he knew that this might be the last time Rachel looked at him with those gentle eyes of hers.
He didn’t care if she saw him as a monster, at least she would be alive.
"Chronos..." Jason called out to his system.
[[Yes?]]
"Activate The Nexus," Jason said.
[[The Nexus: Activated!]]
All it took was a blink from Rachel and the zombies in their path were all cleared.
"Huh?" Rachel thought to herself, there was something different about Jason too.
He rushed to the door but it was bolted from the outside, and the smoke was getting denser.
Rachel’s throat was dry and the cough sounded way more aggressive every passing second.
Jason knew he couldn’t gamble, he clenched his fist and punched the door right open.
They made it out and the hospital burned but the flames were yet to consume outside the hospital, this could explain why no one was there to alert them of the dangers.
"Jason..." Rachel called out to him, Jason was scared to look back because he didn’t know what to expect.
Jason turned around to face her and without hesitation, Rachel hugged him tightly.
"Thank you..." Rachel said, she didn’t ask what he was, she didn’t ask how he was able to do what he did. She didn’t call him a monster.
All she said was thank you and these words were the most sincere words that Jason had ever heard.
Rachel broke away from him and looked Jason right in the eyes.
"... Jason," Rachel concluded as she leaned forward and kissed Jason right on the lips.
"I have been wanting to do that for a while," Rachel said but Jason without hesitation kissed her deeply.
"And I, that," Jason said with a smile.
"O-M-G! Finally! Put me down dipshit!" Lillian barked and Jason did just that.
Lillian woke up the moment the door was smashed apart from Jason but she knew what was about to happen and didn’t want to ruin the moment.
"I’m glad you people could make it out! I had to seal off the door so those things couldn’t make it out!" Mathias appeared out of nowhere to express his ’concern’.
Jason didn’t know when but his fist made contact with Mathias’ face, breaking his nose in the process. Mathias was lucky that he had deactivated the Nexus or he would have had more than a broken nose to worry about.
"You piece of shit..." Jason muttered but that was all he did because he understood the decision that Mathias had taken might have been the right one but what happened to the patients in the hospital? Well, they met their unfortunate end.
-
The gunshot echoed but Dimitris was left standing; however, the shattered glass behind them showed that someone had managed to find a shot.
The bullet pierced right through his spine, this was a fortunate incident for it wasn’t planned.
Without the spine, Jack’s limbs became limp and he dropped to the ground.
Mariam looked back and realized it was Allison and Bella that had saved her.
The note that Franklin had was the key so in a sense, it was Franklin that saved her.
"What are you two doing here?" Mariam asked, not that she wasn’t happy to see them because they just saved her life.
"There is a lot for us to tell you but there’s no time! We need to get him before he escapes!" Bella warned before putting a bullet right through Jack’s head, effectively killing him.
Jack was the person that attacked Lillian and Bella had unknowingly exacted vengeance for that act of violence.
"Doctor Charlie! He is the one behind all of this!" Bella exclaimed but what was this revelation?
Dimitris didn’t need to be told twice and immediately sent out his men to retrieve this doctor.
-
The hunt wasn’t as complex as Franklin’s because Charlie knew the gig was up.
He waited for them in his home and in no time, his house was filled with Dimitris and his men, including Allison and Bella.
"Why did you do it?" Dimitris asked, Charlie had them fooled with his dementia act.
Who could ever suspect a helpless old man with dementia? No one.
"Why did I do it, huh? I guess that is one mystery that will never be solved," The old man said and Dimitris noticed he had emptied a bottle of pills right in front of him.
"I see..." Dimitris muttered, Charlie had already taken measures to make sure that no information could be taken out of him.
"I made a promise..." Dimitris said, taking out his gun and pointing it at Charlie.
"... That the person responsible for the shitstorm would die by my bullet," Dimitris said but there was no fear in Charlie’s eyes and this made him upset.
"Goodbye Charlie," Dimitris said right before pulling the trigger, executing him in cold blood.
But was this the truth or was this the illusion that they wanted others to see?
"What was that name scratched out?" Allison asked Bella but Bella couldn’t make it out. But they assumed it to be Debra but was it truly Debra?
That was something that wasn’t going to come to light, at least now.
They had weathered the storm and the rot had been taken out but this came at the cost of two prominent figures; Mariam’s husband and the wall commander.
But didn’t things seem to work out a bit too perfectly?
