Chapter 318: New Skills, and Attack

Chapter 318: New Skills, and Attack

The following day was an important one. Damian and his crew would be leaving the island. The ship they used to get there had to leave, and they would go along with it.

Damian arrived earlier than all the other merchants had . Everyone else was with him, too.

The ship owner looked surprised. "This is more people than I had imagined," he said, "But with the new rooms available, I think it’s not a problem at all."

A few rooms got empty as some merchants would stay on the island, and no one else would be entering the ship. Damian had talked with the shipowner before, asking for more rooms, and the man agreed to it.

With all the people following him around, like Nessia, Cassia, Elena, Elrandir and the four new people: Kinua, Buck, Frida and Dan, he needed a few more rooms to stay. It was impossible for everyone to be together.

"Good," Damian said with a gentle smile. "Thank you for this."

"No problem. We’ll be leaving in 2 hours."

After speaking with the merchant about that, Damian and the others went straight to their rooms. Damian thought he would get only one more room, but in the end, the shipowner gave him two more.

That was perfect! They talked among each other to see who would sleep with who, and of course, Damian wanted to stay with the ladies.

Frida and Elena were the ones who would share a room with him. The division was not exactly the right one, but Damian was the person in charge, so his word was final.

The two girls weren’t exactly befriending when they first met. "So you are a mercenary," Elena said as she analyzed Frida.

Frida nodded. "Yes, that’s correct. It’s not a life I am proud of, but it was either that or starving."

Damian left the room, leaving the two girls to talk and get to know each other. He went up the deck to feel the breeze and see how the others were doing. That’s where he found Elrandir.

Elrandir stared at the ocean. Damian stopped right beside him. "It’s beautiful, right?" he said.

"Yes, it is."

Elrandir moved his head to the side, staring directly at Damian. "I know you participated in that coliseum thing. Look, although we are in this together, I still don’t trust you fully, and I hope that you can understand my feelings."

Damian’s eyes went wide. He was not expecting anyone to find out he had been in the coliseum. The only explanation he could find as that Elrandir had seen him change his appearance or something like that.

He nodded. "I see. Well, I’ll try to make you trust me. Like you said, we are in this together."

After a brief conversation, Elrandir left, leaving Damian alone on the deck. The ship had left the island, and the island had turned into an insignificant point on the horizon.

The people on the deck were chatting, drinking, and everyone looked happy. Damian knew it was only a matter of days before the ocean changed their mood to the worst. It was hard to sail, everyone knew that.

Another thing that bothered Damian was the creatures or pirates that might show up at any time. The ocean they were passing through was not exactly safe, and something might appear and attack the ship Damian was on.

Nothing happened for the next few days. There were no attacks, no strange movements, and Elrandir never talked about the coliseum anymore. The only thing Damian did was walk around the ship and enjoy the journey.

Well, he did finally use some of his points. The skills he decided to buy were called Water Manipulation and Expanded Lungs.

The skills did exactly what their name suggested. Damian decided to go for them because he would stay a long time in the archipelago, gathering the necessary mana stones for his plan. So, having a skill that could control all the surrounding water, and one to breathe underwater, would be priceless.

Also, the skills were not exactly expensive. It still let him with around 400 spare points.

’I think I might wait and buy something of a higher grade,’ thought Damian.

After a few days of peace, shit came to hit Damian, like always. It was nighttime, and everything looked normal. There were no signs of beasts or pirates.

The crew decided to make a special dinner on the deck to see the starry sky — it was truly beautiful that night. Everyone laughed and enjoyed the moment. Damian included.

That’s when a creature emerged from the ocean’s depths. It was a long blue snake with two angelic wings and limbs, looking like a fusion between a snake, a dragon, and an angel.

It was beautiful and scary at the same time. Damian felt the power coming from the creature, and he knew he didn’t have the power to face it. The encounter made him recall the time he was on the giant island, and everyone was way stronger than him.

’Isn’t this creature too strong to be here?’ pondered Damian.

He was scared. It was not a creature that should be there. At least that was how Damian visualized the situation. The power of that creature was beyond anything else in the dungeon floor he was in.

The snake dragon stared at the ship for a while. The crew could barely breath, as they were scared of dying.

Then Damian heard a voice inside his head. It was the snake dragon.

"Out of everyone here, you are the one who looks promising, at least. Well, I am sorry for ending your life today. You see, this is the day I woke up from my hibernation, and sadly, your ship is on my way."

That’s what the snake dragon said before opening its mouth and sending a powerful breath of fire toward the ship. It instantly burned, and many people died too, all burnt alive.

Damian had been quick enough to create a barrier around him — and his friends who were with him — allowing them to survive the first breath of fire.

But what about the ship? It was completely destroyed, and it was slowly sinking.

"Let’s get the hell out of here before another attack comes our way," Damian said.

Well, it was too late. The snake dragon opened its mouth again, sending a sound wave. Damian passed out.
