Chapter 10 Now, you're a beast.
Chapter 10 Now, you're a beast.
As soon as Jiang Lin finished speaking, the white snake lunged forward.
That aged face was once again exposed to Jiang Lin at close range.
"Jiang Lin!" Ding Xuehui exclaimed in surprise.
The white snake's vertical pupils turned sharply towards the girl, its chilling gaze causing Ding Xuehui to take several steps back, too afraid to utter a word.
"If I had successfully transformed back then, I would probably have had such a beautiful face."
The White Snake's tone was calm and even, yet a hint of sorrow could still be detected. She then looked at the young man again: "Why aren't you afraid of me?"
Jiang Lin felt an overwhelming pressure, like Mount Tai pressing down on him. Sweat beaded on his forehead, but he still smiled brightly: "From beginning to end, you haven't lied to us, while they have been lying all the time."
Recalling the old woman's advice, they realized she was subtly warning them of danger within Snake Fairy Village. Ironically, it was these villagers who repeatedly concealed the truth of what happened back then.
Seeing that the white snake's eyes were no longer sharp, Jiang Lin continued, "You wanted to become human, so you helped people. But you were betrayed. You don't deserve this reward."
"Should I thank you for helping me break the seal?" The white snake narrowed its eyes slightly.
Jiang Lin smiled and said, "We just want to leave here. It would be even better if you could help us."
"Hiss... hiss..." The old village chief glared at Jiang Lin with resentment. Ironically, seeing that he couldn't kill the white snake, he transferred all his hatred onto Jiang Lin. But he could no longer make human sounds, and could only hiss angrily.
Jiang Lin sensed the sinister curse within the hissing sound and retorted mercilessly, "You said human flesh and snake flesh are different. So, now you're a beast."
If that's the case, why should he, as a human being, bother with a beast?
Jiang Lin's words shattered the old village chief's last psychological defenses. The old village chief, who had transformed into a snake-man, tried to rush at Jiang Lin and tear at the young man's flesh, but was kicked away by the young man.
The old village chief still tried to struggle, but the white snake's eyes flashed with ferocity and it let out a strange hiss. All the snake people, including the old village chief, suddenly twisted their faces in pain on the ground. The old village chief reluctantly lowered his head and submitted.
"I will not help you, but as a token of my gratitude, I will not stop you," the white snake commanded the swarm of snakes to retreat. All the villagers who had transformed into snakes had no choice but to obey her order and crawl into the jungle.
The white snake gave Jiang Lin one last pitying look, then twisted her thick snake body and led the swarm of snakes into the deep mountains.
A few minutes later, only the pungent smell of smoke and burning remained in the air. Only then did Ding Xuehui and Wang Zhe dare to speak loudly.
"Jiang Lin scared me to death!" After confirming that Jiang Lin was safe and sound, Ding Xuehui pretended to be worried and threw herself into the young man's arms, forcing out a few tears: "I was so scared, so scared that you would end up like Yang Bin. Luckily you're alright!"
Jiang Lin sneered inwardly, gently but firmly pushing the girl away: "Don't worry. If she wanted to kill me, she could have done it long ago, there's no need to wait until now. Besides, I guess she can't kill me, because I haven't violated any rules about death."
Since it's a death game, players can't break the rules, and NPCs even less so. This is Jiang Lin's true strength.
"Ahem, big brother and sister, I'm not hungry yet, there's no need to force me to eat dog food!" Wang Zhe coughed twice at an inopportune time, his tone quite resentful.
Ding Xuehui feigned embarrassment: "Wang Zhe, don't talk nonsense!"
"Alright, alright!" Wang Zhe waved his hand. "There's not much time left, let's hurry up and figure out how to get out!"

The fire was finally extinguished, and the ancient temple was completely reduced to ruins, as if to show that all grudges had vanished into thin air.
"Why isn't the snake head a way to clear the level? What else could it be?" Wang Zhe scratched his head anxiously.
Jiang Lin's gaze fell on the plaque that wasn't completely burned. Ding Xuehui asked curiously, "Did you find anything?"
Jiang Lin: "A composed guest who gains enlightenment in his heart, a person who cultivates himself and turns to goodness through fate. This sentence is quite interesting."
Ding Xuehui sighed, "This may have been the last piece of advice the Taoist priest left for these villagers, but unfortunately they didn't listen."
Jiang Lin shook his head: "This isn't for NPCs in the game; it's advice for the players."
"What does it mean?" Wang Zhe stared at it for a long time but couldn't figure out the riddle.
"Maybe it's telling us to be good people?" Jiang Lin shrugged, then pointed to the wound on Wang Zhe's arm and asked with concern, "Is your injury alright?"
“It’s okay, everything will be fine once we get out.” After saying that, Wang Zhe realized something was wrong and quickly added, “This is what Guo Yuan said: the damage players suffer in the game has nothing to do with reality. Even if you lose an arm or a leg, as long as you survive to complete the game, you won’t be missing a single hair when you return to reality.”
Jiang Lin: "Let's go to the evacuation point; we should be able to leave then."
"No items are needed to complete the level?" Wang Zhe asked in surprise.
"There has never been any clear clue that we need a certain item to complete this game. Guo Yuan said it all, but is that necessarily true?" Jiang Lin looked directly at Wang Zhe with a meaningful smile.
Wang Zhe's eyes darted around: "That... is true."
The three of them jogged up the mountain and arrived at Snake Fairy Mountain.
Instance time: 8:22.
[Evacuation point countdown: 1 hour 54 minutes 10 seconds.]
Jiang Lin entered the snake pit once again and still felt the biting cold. He led the two to the edge of the pit and stopped.
The snakes obeyed the white snake's command and vanished without a trace. Ding Xuehui peered out, searching for Tao Tao's body, but found only fragments of clothing in the pit.
"It's said that snakes swallow their food whole, but I don't know if that's true or not," Wang Zhe sighed.
Ding Xuehui wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes, took a deep breath, and asked Jiang Lin, "The rock face is very smooth. We don't have any special tools. How are we going to get across?"
Although the White Snake promised not to stop the players, there are still considerable problems ahead.
Jiang Lin: "Let's try forming a human ladder."
After discussing it for a while, the three of them tied their clothes into a rope and went down to the bottom of the pit one by one. Ding Xuehui was the lightest, so Jiang Lin and Wang Zhe squatted down and let Ding Xuehui step on their shoulders before slowly standing up. Finally, the three of them worked together to send Ding Xuehui to the high slope on the other side.
After Ding Xuehui went up, she quickly threw down the rope. Wang Zhe was the heaviest, so Jiang Lin caught the rope, stepped on Wang Zhe's back, and climbed up second.
After all that, Wang Zhe was panting heavily.
"You two, pull me upstairs right now! I can't stand this godforsaken place any longer!"
Ding Xuehui was about to throw the rope down when Jiang Lin suddenly raised his hand to stop her.
The entire cave fell into an eerie silence once again.
Wang Zhe was stunned for a few seconds, then his expression turned serious: "Third brother, quickly pull me up!"
Seeing that the young man remained unmoved, Wang Zhe's lips curled into a smile: "Jiang Lin, what do you mean?"
