Chapter 33 Massacre
Chapter 33 Massacre
'whoosh'
As the kobold leader raised his head and let out a low laugh, I fired my arrow.
'Thump' 'Pfft'
The arrow struck the kobold leader precisely in the chest, eliciting a painful howl. However, even with my fatal blow and the arrow imbued with powerful magic, I couldn't kill it instantly. This was expected; after all, it was a leader monster, and I was quite a distance away.
'Awoo!'
The other kobolds turned their heads in confusion, trying to figure out what had just happened.
I was also a little confused for a moment. For some reason, this kobold was emitting a green glow, as if it had been marked by something.
A thin green line connected me to the kobold, as if guiding its location. But now was not the time to stop. I had to continue the attack before they could react.
'whoosh'
Before they could become alert, I fired another arrow, this time hitting the kobold leader in the shoulder.
'Awoo!'
Then, I shot three arrows in succession.
'Whoosh whoosh'
The leader let out a painful roar, and the other kobolds panicked. However, the arrows I fired all seemed to fly along the trajectory of the green lines, as if my body instinctively knew where to aim.
"What exactly is this?"
Many questions arose in my mind, but now is not the time to think, but the time to fight.
Taking advantage of the surprise attack, I continued to rain down arrows on the kobold leader, specifically targeting its vitals. With each hit, its health gradually decreased. In just ten seconds, I fired five arrows, three of which struck their target.
The other two groups strayed from their target as their leader jumped off the throne and instinctively sought cover.
The other kobolds began to scatter, their confusion turning to fear. They searched everywhere for the source of the attack, but couldn't pinpoint my location.
After all, I was hidden in the shadows, and they couldn't see me at all. Each time I shot an arrow, I had to expose myself temporarily, which made it difficult for me to launch continuous attacks without being detected at all.
"Awoo!"
"Roar!"
"hiss!"
The roars and howls of the kobolds filled the entire stronghold, and even those kobolds busy with gelatinization were disturbed.
'Shh shh shh'
They began searching the forest for attackers, trying to find my scent by smell. But their efforts were completely in vain. I had prepared for this situation beforehand, using perfume that could eliminate odors.
However, another interesting phenomenon caught my attention. The kobold leader was hiding behind the hut, obstructing my view.
But after the last arrow hit its mark, the small green lines connected again.
"Now I'm certain that I can mark monsters with arrows."
I had no time to ponder the reason for this phenomenon, because the kobolds were searching everywhere for me. Moreover, those green lines kept pointing me to the location of the kobold leader.
It remains where it was, perhaps trying to heal its wounds.
[Sprint]
I didn't waste any time; instead, I quickly found a position where I could clearly aim at the kobold leader and activated my skill.
Protected by the shadows, my speed increased dramatically. I found a spot where my view wasn't obstructed by the hut, and the green lines once again connected me to the monster leader.
At that moment, the wounded kobold leader collapsed to the ground. I took the last arrow from my quiver and nocked it. The green line still guided my target, and I concentrated all my magic on this final arrow.
I adjusted my breathing and steadily aimed at my target. The kobold leader's panting filled the air; it was struggling desperately to survive.
'whoosh'
With a deep breath, I released the bowstring, and the arrow pierced the night sky, striking its target with precision.
'Thump' 'Pfft'
The arrow struck its target, piercing the kobold leader's skull with a nauseating sound.
'roar'
The leader monster let out a choked cry, then fell silent. I could clearly see that the monster was dead, lifeless.
Witnessing their leader fall, the other kobolds froze in place in terror. They were gripped by fear as they watched their once-powerful leader succumb to my relentless attacks.
What is the most primal emotion for any living being?
That is fear.
At that moment, all the kobolds felt a fear they had never experienced before.
"Gurgle..." "Roar..." "Awoo..."
After letting out a terrified cry, the kobolds tried to flee, scattering in all directions. But I couldn't let these monsters, who were about to become my source of wealth, get away like that.
'Bang! Bang! Bang!'
Seizing the opportunity, I quickly drew my pistol and fired at the remaining kobolds. The gunshots echoed through the forest, announcing the end of their lives and marking the beginning of mine.
At this point, there was no longer any need to conceal my whereabouts, as the first phase of the battle was over. Unless an even stronger monster emerged from the depths of the forest, there were no enemies here who could threaten me.
'Bang! Bang! Bang!'
One by one, the kobolds fell to my gun. Soon after, the forest returned to silence, with only the echoes of gunfire remaining in the air.
As the gunfire faded, an eerie silence descended upon the forest. A heavy stench of blood filled the air, and the surviving kobolds realized they had nowhere to run.
Their once fearless leader now lay on the ground, and their terror had transformed into madness. The kobolds' roars and howls grew louder, their rage and despair echoing throughout the camp.
Although this is a camp, not all kobolds live here. I noticed another group of kobolds had arrived and joined the battle.
I watched them bar their fangs, their eyes filled with rage. They knew they couldn't defeat me, but with their lives hanging in the balance, their survival instincts took over. They were willing to fight to the death, attempting to overwhelm me with sheer numbers.
“You’re such good parents,” I sneered. Some of the kobolds were standing in the back, trying to protect their cubs.
But it's all in vain, driven by their instincts. Even if I don't kill them, other hunters will come sooner or later and do my job.
“Then, if you have the guts, come at me,” I said. For some reason, my voice was colder than usual, carrying a fearsome confidence and authority that seemed to intimidate them for a brief moment.
'Whoosh! Whoosh!'
This brief pause was exactly what I needed. Dagger in hand, I pounced on the nearest kobold. I activated the [Sprint] skill, greatly enhancing my speed and reflexes.
The kobold lunged at me, but its attacks were clumsy and chaotic. I easily dodged its attacks and swiftly plunged my dagger into its chest, ending its life instantly.
The other kobolds roared and charged at me. But I moved as fast as a shadow, deftly dodging their attacks and killing them one by one. My enhanced agility and reaction speed allowed me to easily predict their movements and counterattack with deadly precision.
Their despair only strengthened my resolve. I was already prepared for this battle and would not be overwhelmed by a group of mindless monsters.
My body was completely driven by instinct. That moment of combat seemed to have put me into a strange state. My movements were swift and precise, like a natural hunter, born to kill.
'boom!boom! '
In close combat, I skillfully switched between my dagger and pistol, using deadly accuracy to kill the kobolds charging at me. Gunshots echoed through the camp, mingling with their desperate howls.
With each fallen companion, the madness in their eyes intensified, growing ever more ferocious. But it was all in vain. I am a hunter, born to hunt.
I am the vengeful one born beneath the moon. My purpose in being is to destroy all the demons in this world. My reason for living is slaughter and revenge.
In the future, I will face increasingly powerful demons... I will never be overwhelmed by such a group of insignificant monsters.
'Thump... thump... thump...'
One after another, the kobolds fell, until only silence remained. The once bustling camp was now a desolate graveyard, piled high with the corpses of defeated monsters.
'Waaah...'
'Scream!'
As the last kobold fell, a strong gust of wind swept through, carrying the stench of blood and corpses into the air... The moon seemed to turn red at that moment, as if stained with the blood of the forest land.
Then, the moon was obscured by a thick, dark cloud, and my vision was blocked by shadows.
'Da da da'
Then, the rain began to pour down, soaking my clothes. It was a magical rain; one couldn't stay in it for too long. Magical rain is a poisonous form of rainfall, and protective measures must be taken in this kind of weather.
"Huh...huh..."
I stood amidst the fallen kobolds, panting heavily, my heart still pounding from the battle. It had been a fierce and brutal fight, but in the end, I had emerged victorious.
"I'm so tired..." I murmured, my heartbeat gradually calming down.
With the threat over, I took a moment to look around. The forest was silent once more, but the air still carried the stench of blood and death. The battle was over.
However, my work is not yet finished.
I put on the cloak I had prepared for this situation, listened to the sound of raindrops hitting the cloak, and began to pack up my spoils.
As I retrieved the arrows and wiped the blood from my dagger, I couldn't help but recall the strange green lines that connected me to the kobold leader. It was a mysterious power I had never experienced before, yet at the same time, I seemed to instinctively know how to use it, as if someone were guiding me.
"This must be related to the color of my magic. Is it because it's green?" I asked myself. But I couldn't get a definite answer, and at that moment I didn't want to delve into it anymore. I needed rest, not because I was physically exhausted, but because I was mentally exhausted.
Of course, I'm physically exhausted, but stamina potions can cure that. Mental fatigue, however, is a completely different matter.
Walking through the forest, I collected the kobold corpses one by one until only the leader's corpse remained.
The kobold leader is larger and stronger than the other kobolds, with sharp claws and teeth that signify its status within the kobold race. Its body is covered in scars and the marks of battle, testaments to the countless fights it has endured to maintain its dominance and its multiple evolutions.
Its fur was dark brown, and its eyes, once filled with arrogance and cruelty, now stared blankly at the dark sky. I examined its corpse closely, noticing its distinctive features compared to the other kobolds.
After completing this arduous task, I retreated to a dry spot and set up a makeshift camp under a large tree. I sat by the campfire, the rain still pouring down around me, and finally had a moment to catch my breath.
The adrenaline from the battle had subsided, and now exhaustion weighed heavily on my shoulders. My muscles ached from the intense fighting, and my mind was filled with memories of it.
Normally in this situation, I would drink a healing potion, but now that all the monsters here have been cleared out, I can try to heal myself with something else.
I took a small bottle out of my backpack, which contained a drug I had concocted myself to improve training efficiency.
'grunt'
I swallowed the medicine in one gulp, enduring the excruciating pain coursing through my body, and sat curled up on the ground.
"Uh......"
A few seconds later, the effects of the medicine gradually became apparent, and the pain began to subside.
I took some dry rations out of my backpack and began to eat to replenish my strength. The sound of raindrops hitting the leaves provided a relaxing rhythm, and even though I had just experienced a massacre, I still felt a sense of peace.
I decided to rest for a while before venturing deeper into the dungeon. The rain showed no signs of stopping, and it wouldn't be wise to venture out in this weather. I crawled into my tent, trying to make myself as comfortable as possible.
Lying on the damp ground, I closed my eyes, letting my body and mind rest. And so, the first day in the dungeon came to an end.
