Chapter 9 Then Feed Me
Chapter 9 Then Feed Me
Lian Qiao returned quickly: "Miss, the master had the kitchen prepare dinner early this morning, and it's been kept warm on the stove, but he hasn't sent it over yet."
"Have the kitchen prepare some light dishes and send them to the study. I'll be right there," Shen Li said as she dressed.
Lian Qiao instructed the maids outside, and then came over to help Shen Li get dressed.

"Why did you bring the food box to the study? Don't you know that the master can't stand the smell of greasy food when he's in the study?" Gu Chang'an's personal servant stopped the kitchen staff and pulled them away from the door before speaking.
"Brother Chunsheng, although I haven't been in the manor for long, I know the rules. But this was sent by the madam, and she said she wanted to come over." The kitchen servant said with difficulty.
"Madam?" Chun Sheng's clever eyes darted around.
"Yes, you've spent a lot of time with the adults, could you give me some advice?"
"Then don't let it delay Madam's affairs. Give me the food, and you wait outside." Chunsheng took the food box, knocked on the door, and went inside.
Gu Chang'an was reading Liu Ling's latest confession. Hearing the voice, he didn't look up, but quickly frowned.
"Who gave you permission to bring the food in?" he asked coldly.
"My lord, please don't be angry. It was Madam who sent these dishes. She must have known you hadn't eaten dinner," Chunsheng said as he placed the dishes on the table.
Gu Chang'an stood up in such a hurry that he almost knocked over the table. He took a few steps forward and looked at Chunsheng to confirm, "Did Madam send it?"
"Yes, sir, Madam also said she would come over, probably to have a meal with you," Chunsheng said with a smile, happy for his master.
"She's coming over? It's so cold outside, how can she move around like this?" Gu Chang'an turned around and walked out. He had only reached the door when it opened, and Shen Li, wearing a silver cloak, appeared before him.
He almost instinctively took two steps back, his gaze uncontrollably lingering on her beautiful face.
Shen Li was born with exquisite and elegant features, and her eyes and brows naturally carried a hint of aloofness, which is why she was often described as a fairy in a painting, unattainable.
"Why would I be afraid of the cold? But you, why aren't you eating?" Shen Li felt sorry for him when she saw him habitually backing away, so she stepped forward and took his hand.
This man's hands are often cold even though it's only late autumn.
"I...I'm not hungry..." Gu Chang'an felt dizzy when her hands were held. She was afraid of making her cold and wanted to pull them back, but she was also afraid of upsetting her. She was caught in a dilemma and her words became incoherent.
"People aren't made of iron, how can we not be hungry?" Shen Li pulled his hand and walked towards the dining table. "I'll eat with you, maybe we can eat something?"
Gu Chang'an nodded and helped Shen Li sit down. At the same time, he instructed Chun Sheng, who was standing next to him, "Have the kitchen send over the crystal pork knuckle, beggar's chicken, roast goose, and steamed ham that are simmering on the fire."
"Yes." Chunsheng moved quickly.
After Gu Chang'an finished speaking, he also wanted to find a place to sit down, but after taking two steps, he found that Shen Li was holding his right hand and had no intention of letting go. He looked back and saw Shen Li looking at him with a wronged expression.
"Can't we sit together?" she asked.
"Yes." Gu Chang'an agreed without thinking. When he regained consciousness, he found himself sitting next to Shen Li.
Half of his body was stiff, and he had completely forgotten how he got there.
Lian Qiao took a set of bowls and chopsticks from the other side, and Shen Li naturally picked up some vegetables for Gu Chang'an.
"Thank you." Gu Chang'an thanked him, his voice a little reserved: "Ah Li, I can do it myself."
"Waiting for you to eat would probably make me starve to death," Shen Li said with a hint of helplessness. "Besides, why didn't you ask me if I had eaten when I came back?"
If she asked, she would immediately realize that he definitely hadn't eaten.
"You should have used up this time." Gu Chang'an said before putting the food Shen Li had picked up into his mouth and eating slowly.
"What if I don't eat?"
"I asked your maid before I left, and she said you had a good appetite and ate a lot last night."
"You asked the maid but not me, is that it?" Shen Li had no way to deal with him.
This man didn't want to cause her any trouble, or even feel a little guilty.
She forgot what she had promised him, so he simply let her forget it completely.
Seeing that she seemed a little unhappy, Gu Chang'an immediately said, "It doesn't matter whether I eat it or not, don't be angry."
"I'm not angry, I'm just worried about you. You hide when you're not feeling well, you hide when you're hungry. You don't care about your own health at all." Shen Li muttered as she put more food on his plate.
Upon hearing Shen Li express her heartache, Gu Chang'an's dark eyes immediately brightened, becoming as clear and bright as a spring. He pursed his handsome lips and quickly lowered his head to eat, concealing his smile.
This time he ate more attentively.
Shen Li felt even more heartache. It was as if, even after being reborn, her love was still not as delicate and intense as his.
"How much longer will it take to finish this business?" Shen Li asked, resting her chin on her hand. "I'll wait for you to go back to your room together."
"Cough..." Gu Chang'an choked for a moment before answering, "Soon."
"Then I'll wait for you." Shen Li looked at his reddened ears and knew it was really hard for her not to touch them.
Soon several meat dishes were served, and Shen Li then remembered to ask him, "You've always preferred light food, why have you changed your taste?"
"This is for you. You're growing and get hungry quickly." Gu Chang'an placed a piece of braised pork knuckle on her plate: "Want to try some?"
Shen Li wasn't hungry at first, but when she saw these dishes, she couldn't take her eyes off them, and her stomach started growling.
Perhaps due to her physical constitution, she needs more food than the average person to maintain her bodily functions, especially meat. She has been controlling her food intake since she can remember; firstly, eating less wouldn't harm her health, and secondly, it's simply unseemly.
In her previous life, she ate less and less, and because she was exhausted from assisting Li Heng, she was no stronger than an ordinary person before she died, so she was powerless to save Gu Chang'an.
"Then feed me." She opened her mouth slightly towards Gu Chang'an.
In this life, elegance is no longer important to her; having enough to eat is the most important thing, and being able to protect the people she wants to protect is the most important thing of all.
