Chapter 113 Superpower Levels
As required by the base, the first thing the group of eight did upon returning to the base was to report to Team Leader Liu. Although they had not successfully penetrated into the port city on this trip, they were lucky enough to bring back two children who had evolved superpowers and a pure white crystal.
Upon arriving at the research institute, Lu Yuan and the others lined up to go to the examination room to enter their physical data, while Ji Lang brought the two children and the crystal to Team Leader Liu.
"May I ask your names?" Team Leader Liu is over forty years old, but he is single-mindedly devoted to his studies and has never married or had children. So, when facing children, he can only awkwardly express his friendliness.
However, the two children did not give Team Leader Liu the response he wanted. Since arriving at the research institute, they have followed Ji Lang with expressionless faces. They have followed Ji Lang's instructions to leave or sit, and have not uttered a single word all the way.
"Alright, if you don't want to talk about it, then don't." Team Leader Liu looked at the two expressionless children, shook his head helplessly, and spoke again, "Uncle will just ask you a few questions, okay?"
The child still did not respond.
"I'm asking you a question. How can you be so rude?" Ji Lang himself was an orphan, so he was actually quite patient with children. However, these two kids had previously tricked him and Lu Yuan out of their sympathy and even used their superpowers to hold them hostage. Therefore, Ji Lang was particularly stern with them now.
The younger child, upon seeing Ji Lang's sour face, didn't give Ji Lang and Team Leader Liu a chance to react before bursting into tears and unable to stop.
People from other offices gathered around, including several researchers who already had children. They all tried to comfort the child who was crying so hard he could barely breathe, but no matter how they tried to persuade him, he wouldn't stop and only cried harder. The older child, on the other hand, watched coldly from the side, without saying a word.
"That's enough, you two!" Ji Lang snapped, slamming his hand on Team Leader Liu's workbench with a loud "bang." This immediately silenced the crying child, whose face was covered in tears and snot, and the other child also trembled, looking at Ji Lang.
"Behave yourselves and answer the questions!" Ji Lang looked at the two children. "You're both superhumans capable of holding adults hostage, so stop pretending with me."
The little boy was so frightened by this that he took two steps back and shrank behind another child. He looked up at his companion, then at Ji Lang, feeling a little scared and wanting to cry, but he tried his best to hold back his tears.
"My name is Li Jue, and this is my younger brother, Lin Lin." The older child shielded the little one behind him before answering Team Leader Liu's first question with a disgruntled expression.
"Age!" Ji Lang's demeanor was quite like that of a police interrogation of a criminal. The two little kids were completely frightened. Although they were uncooperative, they still obediently began to answer the questions.
"I'm 14 years old, and he's 8." Li Jue has already entered the stage of voice change, so his voice is not very childish.
"Your father..." Ji Lang was about to ask the two children about their family situation as usual, but when he thought about how this was the apocalypse, and how the two children had to brave the wind and snow to find food on their own, he was stunned. He didn't ask any further questions, but instead turned to look at Team Leader Liu.
Suddenly being called upon, Team Leader Liu looked at Ji Lang, then at the two children, before realizing what was happening. He continued, "Uncle isn't a bad person. This is the South China Security Base of the State. Uncle just wants to know what kind of superpowers you possess and how you obtained them."
"Not long after the zombies appeared, Xiao Lin developed this ability to control ice. We never dared to tell anyone." Li Jue held Lin Lin in his arms and began to recount their experience.
After Lu Yuan and his team finished their physical examinations and came out of the examination room, they saw two little children huddled together, looking pitiful and saying...
"Later, I had a fever and fell into a coma. Xiao Lin stayed in the dilapidated house to watch over me, while Xiao Bei and the others went out to run errands for Boss Wei to get food, but they never came back after they left."
When Li Jue mentioned Xiao Bei, Pei Sihao immediately thought of the children they had met at the checkpoint. Because the children were all quite young, they were probably so happy to have come back with them that they forgot they had companions with them.
“I haven’t woken up yet. Xiao Lin has been surviving on the little bit of bread he’d stockpiled. Luckily, he has superpowers, so even though it’s very cold outside, he hasn’t gotten sick. I only woke up two days ago. I also gained superpowers after surviving this ordeal; I can control very hot air currents.” Li Jue said, demonstrating his superpowers to the adults present. Team Leader Liu felt the air around him suddenly become scorching hot, and soon he could see waves of heat appearing before his eyes.
“We ran out of food, so I took Xiaolin out to find something to eat. We happened to see your yacht dock, and then they left, so we…” Li Jue pointed at Gu Nanfeng and the others, pursed her lips, and indicated that she had told them everything.
"The older brothers and sisters here will take you through some tests. Just follow along and do the tests obediently, and then we'll take you to eat, okay?" Although Team Leader Liu's expression was still stiff, Li Jue and Lin Lin's eyes lit up when they heard they could eat. The two children obediently followed the researcher to the examination room next door.

So Lin Yun briefly reported the origin of the thumb-sized pure white crystal to Team Leader Liu and the others.

Team Leader Liu looked at the crystal in the petri dish in front of him and fell into deep thought.
