Chapter 41 Night Talk
Chapter 41 Night Talk
Inside the cave, a campfire crackled and popped.
Zhao Chen gathered some dry branches from outside and lit them with magic. The flames danced, warming the entire cave, and the firelight reflected on the rock walls, creating flickering shadows.
Liang Bing huddled by the fire, warming her hands against the flames, her eyes constantly glancing towards Zhao Chen. Keisha sat beside her, eyes closed, lost in thought. He Xi sat opposite her, staring at the flames, occasionally glancing at Zhao Chen.
The firelight outlined the silhouettes of four people.
Zhao Chen leaned against the rock wall near the cave entrance, one leg bent and the other casually stretched out. His eyes were closed, and the firelight flickered on his face, softening his otherwise stern features.
He Xi's gaze fell on him, scrutinizing him carefully.
The man was very alert. Although his eyes were closed, his hands hung at his sides with his fingertips pointing towards the hole, a posture that suggested he could strike at any moment.
Moreover, he exuded an indescribable aura, not the holiness of an angel, but something else... more noble and profound.
Liang Bing couldn't hold back any longer and leaned close to Keisha's ear, lowering her voice.
"Sister, is he really your husband?"
Keisha opened her eyes and glanced at her.
"Don't talk nonsense."
"But he said it himself," Liang Bing blinked, "and you didn't refute it."
"I said I'd talk about it later," Keisha said calmly, "but not now."
Liang Bing said "Oh," but her expression clearly said, "I don't believe you for a second."
He Xi looked at the two of them, a tiny smile curving her lips. Then she looked at Zhao Chen and spoke.
"What are your plans next?"
Zhao Chen opened his eyes, his golden pupils appearing exceptionally deep in the firelight.
"What do you want to do?"
He Xi remained silent for a moment.
"We want to overthrow Hua Ye."
Zhao Chen nodded.
"Then let's push it."
Liang Bing couldn't help but interject, "You think you can just push it away like that? Hua Ye has so many subordinates..."
"Liang Bing," Keisha interrupted her.
Shut up, Liang Bing.
Keisha looked at Zhao Chen, the firelight reflecting in her golden eyes.
"Are you willing to help us?"
Zhao Chen met her gaze.
"You are my woman," Zhao Chen said. "Your affairs are my affairs."
Liang Bing covered her mouth and chuckled, but was glared at by Keisha.
He Xi looked at him thoughtfully.
"How strong...are you?"
After thinking it over, Zhao Chen decided to conceal some of his strength.
"By your standards, his physical body is probably at the peak of the second-generation divine body. With the help of magic weapons, he can kill those of the same level."
He Xi's eyes narrowed slightly.
Being able to kill a peak second-generation cultivator means that he is stronger than she expected.
"What's this magic weapon?" Liang Bing asked curiously, leaning closer. "Can I take a look?"
Zhao Chen glanced at her, then flipped his hand, and the Chaos Bell appeared in his palm. It was about the size of a palm, pitch black, and its surface was densely covered with array patterns, gleaming eerily in the firelight.
Liang Bing's eyes lit up.
"Looks amazing!" She reached out to touch him, but Zhao Chen dodged her.
"Don't touch it."
Liang Bing pouted and said discontentedly, "Stingy."
Keisha looked at her, and the corners of her mouth couldn't help but turn up slightly.
The firelight flickered, and the cave was quiet for a moment.
He Xi stared at the small bell, a thoughtful glint in her eyes. She could sense that it contained extremely powerful energy, no less than any divine artifact she had ever seen.
"Where are you from?" she asked.
"A very far place." Zhao Chen put away the Chaos Bell. "Even if I told you, you wouldn't know."
Liang Bing leaned closer: "Then why did you save my sister?"
Zhao Chen looked at Keisha.
The firelight illuminated her face, her long golden hair cascading down, and her brows and eyes still bore the marks of lingering weariness. But her eyes remained bright, and she was looking directly at him.
"Because she's your sister," Zhao Chen said.
Liang Bing blinked: "What kind of answer is that?"
"That's enough," Keisha said. "Stop asking."
Liang Bing pouted, but obediently shut her mouth.
He Xi glanced at Zhao Chen, who had already leaned against the rock wall and closed his eyes again.
The fire crackled and popped, occasionally sputtering sparks that quickly went out.
Liang Bing leaned against Keisha, staring blankly at the flames. After a while, she couldn't help but whisper, "Sis, he's actually quite handsome."
Keisha ignored her.
"His eyes are beautiful, golden," Liang Bing continued to mutter softly, "He's just a little quiet. But it's good that men are quiet, less annoying..."
"Liang Bing." Keisha opened her eyes.
"Um?"
"If you say another word, I'll throw you out."
Liang Bing immediately covered her mouth, but her eyes were full of laughter.
The firelight flickered, and the cave fell completely silent.
Keisha leaned back against the rock wall, her gaze involuntarily falling towards the direction of the cave entrance.
The man remained seated, eyes closed. The firelight illuminated his face, highlighting the contours of his profile, with a faint, old mark at the end of his eyebrow appearing and disappearing in the light and shadow.
She remembered what he had just said—"You are my woman."
He clearly forced her to agree in that way, but when he said this, his tone was as calm as if he were stating something perfectly natural.
She couldn't explain what that feeling was like.
A little annoyed, a little confused, and a little...
Keisha looked away and closed her eyes.
-
After an unknown amount of time, the flames gradually diminished.
Liang Bing had fallen asleep leaning against Keisha, her breathing even. He Xi leaned against the other side, her eyes closed, it was unclear whether she was asleep or not.
Keisha opened her eyes and found Zhao Chen looking at her.
The firelight danced in his eyes, and her face was reflected in his golden pupils.
They made eye contact for a moment.
Zhao Chen didn't speak, he just looked at her.
Keisha's heart skipped a beat, and she hurriedly looked away.
After a while, when I peeked over again, Zhao Chen had already closed his eyes.
The fire crackled softly.
Keisha leaned against the rock wall, gazing at the flickering flames.
The starry sky outside is vast and boundless, but at this moment, this small cave is very quiet.
It's very warm.
