Chapter 46 Mine Rescue
Chapter 46 Mine Rescue
Liang Bing woke up before dawn.
She began to toss and turn in the cave, and finally got up and squatted by the fire, poking at the ashes. The fire had long since gone out, leaving only a pile of cold ash, and she couldn't stir up even a single spark after poking at it for a long time.
"Liang Bing," Keisha's voice came from behind, "Can you please be quiet?"
Liang Bing turned around and saw Keisha leaning against the rock wall, her eyes still closed. She then looked towards the cave entrance—Zhao Chen was not there.
"Sis, where's my brother-in-law?"
Keisha did not answer.
Liang Bing got up and walked outside. As soon as she stepped out of the cave, she saw Zhao Chen standing on a rock not far away, gazing at the starry sky.
Before the morning light fully broke through, Zhao Chen's profile was clearly visible in the dim light, with golden patterns faintly visible from under his collar, appearing and disappearing in the morning light.
Liang Bing suddenly remembered what He Xi had said—Zhao Chen was a demon, transformed from a crow, with the blood of the sun flowing through his veins.
"Brother-in-law!" Liang Bing ran over. "Why are you up so early?"
Zhao Chen turned to look at her. "You're not asleep."
Liang Bing paused for a moment, then leaned closer and lowered her voice: "Are you nervous?"
Zhao Chen looked at her and said, "Don't be nervous."
Liang Bing was a little skeptical. Just as she was about to ask again, footsteps suddenly came from behind her. It was Keisha and He Xi who came out. Both of them had changed into clean clothes and had their hair combed again, making them look much more energetic.
"Let's go," Keisha said.
Zhao Chen nodded. A flash of golden light, and the four of them disappeared from the spot.
The seventh outpost in the North.
The dark copper mine sits between two barren mountains, surrounded by a gray, flat plain devoid of even a blade of grass. In the center of the mine, crates of dark copper ore are piled up, dozens of female angels are working, and overseers circle around, cracking their whips.
Zhao Chen landed on a cliff outside the mine with the three women, using invisibility to shroud the four of them and completely conceal their presence.
Liang Bing lay behind a rock, peering down. "So many people..."
He Xi estimated: "About forty guards, four squad leaders, and one commander." She looked at Zhao Chen, "You're in charge of that commander position."
Zhao Chen nodded. Keisha stared at him. "Will it work?"
"able."
Keisha didn't ask any more questions.
Looking at the mine, He Xi suddenly spoke. "My Tianji family members should be in the east." She pointed to a row of shacks on the east side of the mine, "Those are where female angels are imprisoned."
Liang Bing also came over. "The Apocalypse Family is in the west; I saw their symbol."
Keisha nodded, about to say something, when Zhao Chen suddenly raised his hand.
"The commander has arrived."
A golden figure flew out of the building in the center of the mine and landed beside the pile of ore. It was a second-generation peak angel, tall and wearing silver-white armor with a longsword hanging at his waist. He scanned his surroundings with sharp eyes, but found nothing unusual.
"He patrols the warehouse every half hour," Zhao Chen said. "I'll make my move once he enters the warehouse."
Keisha looked at him. "Are you sure?"
Zhao Chen looked at her, a very faint smile playing on his lips. "Yes."
Keisha looked away and said nothing more.
Half an hour later, the commander turned and walked towards the warehouse. Zhao Chen made a move.
With a flash of golden light, Zhao Chen disappeared from the spot.
In the center of the mine, the commander had just pushed open the warehouse door when he suddenly froze—a hand landed on his shoulder, instantly immobilizing him. He didn't even have time to turn around before he was frozen in place.
Zhao Chen stepped out from behind him, raised his hand, and the Chaos Bell resounded. The pitch-black bell flew out from his palm, instantly growing larger, and the sound reverberated outwards.
The commander was frozen in place, unable to move. The surrounding guards, however, were thrown about by the sound of the bell, some clutching their heads and screaming in pain, while others fainted on the spot.
"Make your move!" Keisha hissed.
Three figures swooped down from the cliff. Keisha slashed down the nearest guard with a single sword strike, He Xi's short sword pierced another's throat from behind, and Liang Bing kicked the third away with flying speed, their movements as swift as if they had rehearsed countless times.
Zhao Chen stood at the warehouse entrance, the Chaos Bell hovering above his head, blocking all incoming attacks. His gaze swept across the battlefield, seeing Keisha surrounded by four guards, her sword flashing like bolts of lightning, but she was gradually becoming strained.
He raised his hand, and the God-Slaying Spear flew out from his palm.
A dark blue spearhead ripped through the air, instantly piercing the chests of the two guards. Keisha turned to look at him; Zhao Chen had already sheathed the God-Slaying Spear, as if nothing had happened.
"Look ahead," he said.
Keisha gritted her teeth, turned around, and continued killing.
Fifteen minutes later, all the guards in the mine fell. The four squad leaders had been killed by Keisha and He Xi together, and Liang Bing had also killed seven or eight others. She was sitting on a pile of ore, panting heavily.
"I'm exhausted..."
Keisha sheathed her sword and looked around. The door to the hut was open, and the enslaved angels were cautiously approaching. They were ragged and emaciated, but their eyes shone with light.
"Lady Keisha!" A young angel rushed over and threw herself into Keisha's arms. "You really came..."
Keisha hugged her and patted her back. "It's okay."
He Xi also found the Tianji family members and was whispering something. Liang Bing had already run over and was chattering away with several female angels from the Tianqi family.
Zhao Chen stood at the warehouse entrance, not going over.
After a while, Keisha came over to thank Zhao Chen. "Thank you."
Zhao Chen looked at her. "No need."
Keisha stared into his eyes, wanting to say something, but ultimately said nothing. She simply nodded slightly, then turned to arrange the female angels.
Zhao Chen watched her retreating figure, a slight smile playing on his lips.
In the distance, Liang Bing was pulling He Xi towards them, calling out, "Brother-in-law! Look how many people I've saved!"
Zhao Chen looked at her and nodded.
Liang Bing smiled like a child being praised, her eyes almost squinting into slits.
The sky was beginning to lighten with the first hint of dawn. In the mine, the rescued female angels supported each other, smiles finally returning to their faces.
"It's time to go." He Xi walked over. "The pursuers may be here soon."
Keisha nodded and began organizing the female angels to evacuate. Zhao Chen stood aside, watching them leave one by one. When the last person walked out of the mine, he suddenly stopped.
"You guys go first," he said.
"What's wrong?" Keisha turned around and asked.
Zhao Chen glanced at the corpses of angels scattered on the ground. "I'll cover the rear and see if there are any pursuers. They'll catch up soon."
Keisha stared at him for two seconds, then slowly nodded.
"Then be careful."
After saying this, the three women led the female angels and flew towards the starry sky. In the starry sky, Liang Bing glanced back in the direction of the mine and muttered, "Why isn't my brother-in-law here yet…?"
He Xi didn't say anything.
Keisha didn't say anything either.
In the mine, Zhao Chen stood amidst a pile of corpses, opened his mouth, and unleashed his Devouring Talent at full power.
He swallowed the corpses of those first-generation divine angels whole, their flesh and blood transforming into surging energy that flowed into his body. Pure Yang True Fire danced in his dantian, refining this energy into pure true essence, which he then integrated into his limbs and bones. The four squad leaders were second-generation divine bodies, their energy even more concentrated, so Zhao Chen deliberately saved them for last.
Finally, there was the second-generation leader at his peak.
Zhao Chen crouched down and pressed himself against the corpse. He activated his Devouring Talent at full power, and an energy ten times more concentrated than that of an ordinary angel surged into his body. The primordial spirit in his dantian suddenly opened its eyes, its small golden hand clenching slightly as it absorbed all the energy, causing the golden patterns on its surface to shine even brighter.
Zhao Chen stood up and scanned his surroundings. All the corpses had vanished, leaving not a single drop of blood. With a flick of his wrist, a wisp of pure Yang true fire shot from his fingertips, incinerating the traces on the ground.
With a flash of golden light, Zhao Chen disappeared from the spot.
Outside the starry sky, the three women were waiting on an asteroid.
Keisha stood on the rock, gazing blankly at the starry sky. Liang Bing squatted beside her, muttering, "Why isn't brother-in-law back yet?" He Xi closed her eyes, as if resting.
A beam of golden light descended.
"Brother-in-law!" Liang Bing jumped up. "You're finally back!"
Zhao Chen nodded and walked to Keisha's side.
"How is it?" she asked.
"There are no pursuers."
Keisha looked at him, then suddenly moved closer and sniffed his collar.
Zhao Chen did not dodge.
Keisha stepped back, her gaze complex. "You smell of fresh blood."
Liang Bing leaned closer. "Brother-in-law, are you injured?"
Zhao Chen shook his head and said it must have been left over from the previous battle.
He Xi looked up at him, but ultimately said nothing.
Keisha stared at Zhao Chen for a few seconds, then didn't ask any further questions.
"Let's go," she said.
Zhao Chen nodded.
A golden light swept up the four people and they disappeared into the starry sky.
Behind them, the asteroid receded further and further away. Not a single corpse remained on the mine ruins; only scorch marks on the ground testified to a battle that had once taken place.
In the distance, on the planet Tiancheng, stands the Holy Light Tower.
Hua Ye leaned back on the throne, listening to the guards' report.
"The Dark Copper Mine at the Seventh Outpost in the North was attacked. The entire guard was wiped out, the mine was destroyed, and all the imprisoned female angels have disappeared."
Hua Ye, holding his wine glass, didn't even lift his eyelids. "Who did it?"
The guard's forehead was beaded with sweat. "There were signs of a struggle at the scene, but... no clues were left behind. The guards were all killed in one blow; the opponent was very strong."
Hua Ye took a sip of his drink and suddenly laughed. "That's interesting."
He put down his wine glass, stood up, and walked to the window. Outside the window was the brightly lit Tiancheng Star, and in the distance, an endless sea of stars.
"That woman, Keisha, does have some skills," he muttered to himself. "But can a group of women really turn the world upside down?"
He turned and looked at the guard.
"Send more manpower to keep an eye on the other mines. Next time they come, we won't need to leave any survivors."
The guards acknowledged the order and withdrew.
Hua Ye sat back on the throne, picked up his wine cup, and gazed at the dark night sky outside the palace.
"Just a bunch of rats," Hua Ye scoffed. "Let them be."
A night breeze blew, and the lights of the Holy Light Tower flickered.
