Chapter 20: The Doting Father Arrives
Chapter 20: The Doting Father Arrives
Luo Ning returned to the Luo family home, carrying the homecoming gifts, and was about to close the door when a man with a bulbous nose came over carrying some things.
"Luoning, these are the things you left at the village entrance during the day, I brought them to you!" The woman with the red nose lived next door, and she considered the Luo family unlucky, having both committed suicide by jumping into the river and arranged ghost marriages! If it weren't for... she wouldn't have come to invite this bad luck.
Luo Ning was stunned for a moment; she had completely forgotten about that. "Auntie, thank you so much!"
Luo Ning gave the person with the red nose a "friend card," took the things, and was surprised to find that a jar of wine was missing. What happened?
"Luoning, your uncle just likes to have a drink. I've been watching your things for half the day, and you said you wanted to thank me, so I'll keep that jar of wine!" The man with the red nose said with a grin.
Ah--
Luo Ning is absolutely furious; this guy has such a huge ego.
He confiscated a whole jar of wine from her every few hours; what a habit...
We can't spoil them!
“Auntie, if it were before, I would have been willing to spend ten jars of wine, let alone one. But not today. Those two jars were prescribed by an old Chinese medicine doctor in the city to treat my dad’s back. There are medicines in them. If someone drinks them even if they are not sick, they will die!”
The woman with the red nose was startled. She dared not give this deadly stuff to her old man. Luckily, he wasn't home today, or something bad would have happened. However, she didn't want to return the wine.
Returning what had fallen into her hands felt like cutting off a piece of her flesh.
Luo Ning immediately saw through the rosacea's thoughts and started spouting nonsense with a straight face.
"Auntie, let me tell you, that old Chinese medicine doctor is incredibly skilled. He can diagnose almost any illness with a single glance. He's especially experienced in helping people have sons; the line of patients stretches for blocks, and many come from other provinces specifically to seek his help. However, he has a very strange temper; he hates people cutting in line and taking advantage of others..."
The woman with the red nose blinked a few times. "Luoning, your aunt is confused. Your uncle quit drinking a while ago. I'll bring the wine back to you right now!"
"Auntie, it's dark and the roads are slippery, be careful on your way! I won't see you off..." Luo Ning turned and went inside, waiting for her wine to return.
"No need, no need, it's just a few steps!" The bulbous-nosed man hurried away.
Luo Ning took a bag of millet out of her spatial storage and started cooking.
Zhang Wanhua's youngest daughter carried a jar of wine into the kitchen, then ran away as if chased by a ghost.
Luo Jing was to be married off to a ghost, and her mother even kicked her out in the middle of the night to deliver wine, which terrified her.
Luo Ning's lips curled slightly; he'd returned quickly enough.
More than an hour later, she finished cooking, put all the food in a steamer, and carried it into the space. Braving the wind and snow, she walked towards the town, slipping and sliding with every step.
As she passed the village entrance, she saw a limping figure slip through a fence.
Luo Ning's eyes flashed. Who was that? And whose house was it?
Her mind went blank; this damn original owner never cared about anything in the village!
She will have to be even more careful if she wants to establish herself here in the future.
By the time Luo Ning arrived at the town hospital, it was almost midnight, and the whole family was starving.
"Mom and Dad, I'm here!" Luo Ning carried a large ladle into the room and placed it on the bedside table.
"I brought back all the gifts for the bride's return visit, but the chicken was killed, which saves us the trouble. I carried the grain from home!"
"But... can the Xie family do it?" Liu Aihong was happy, but she couldn't help but worry.
Living in the same village, she knew the Xie family's true nature better than anyone.
"We have to do it!" Luo Ning said with absolute confidence. She didn't tell her parents what had happened at the Xie family's house. Now that it was all resolved, she didn't want them to worry.
As Luo Ning ladled out millet porridge, he said, "Dad, I'll handle this. You just focus on getting better!"
She was calculating her options meticulously. If she didn't make good use of the opportunity presented by the Xie family, she wouldn't be Luo Ning.
Liu Aihong was a little flustered, but seeing Luo Ning so calm, she felt less troubled.
Luo Baiwan asked with some concern, "Will this work?"
Daya is just a child; he should handle this kind of thing.
"You have to do it, even if it's not going to work out. Just focus on getting better!" Liu Aihong, who had been gentle and submissive for most of her life, became firm this time.
The old man vomited blood today, and she doesn't want him to work so hard anymore.
Since Da Ya had taken the blame, she might as well give it a shot.
Seeing that his wife and daughter were so firm in their stance, Luo Baiwan, feeling unwell, remained silent.
Tonight's dinner was a pot of fragrant chicken soup with millet porridge and stir-fried cabbage, so plentiful that the Luo family could hardly believe it.
This does not include Luo Ning, of course.
In her past life, what hadn't she seen and eaten? This meal was nothing more than a simple home-cooked meal for her.
Moreover, due to the lack of seasonings, the taste wasn't very good.
She doesn't dare take those things out of her space easily, because it would give her away; she's a fake!
Luo Jing held a bowl of pork breast and ate it with relish.
This was the first time she had ever eaten chicken, and she had risked her life for it. The more she thought about it, the more she felt she had lost out.
Only Luo Ning is his biological child; she was adopted.
Her parents always gave Luo Ning the best food, never thinking that she was being wary of them.
Luo Jing's eyes welled up with tears as she lowered her head to eat.
When Luo Ning picked up his rice bowl and saw what was inside, he looked at Luo Jing, who was happily munching on a bowl of pork breast.
Luo Ning's lips twitched. She finally understood why the original owner of this body had become so fat!
She's definitely a loving mother; she spoils her daughter without limits.
But Mom, your unrestrained pampering of me has brought Luo Jing a lifetime of harm...
The original owner was heartless and took it all for granted, even going so far as to escalate her behavior. Poor Luo Jing, so young, was like a little cabbage in the field, with no one to care for or love her.
These weren't given away as a free gift with a phone top-up; it was a buy-one-get-one-free promotion at the mall!
Having been neglected for so long, she had such a moment of despair that she threw herself into the arms of her new mother, the Great River. How pitiful.
After feeling sorry for Luo Jing for three seconds, Luo Ning began to feast.
Luo Jing was beaten up by the original owner of the body. Although she sympathized with Luo Jing's plight when she first arrived, she could only pretend not to see it. Being too nice to Luo Jing suddenly would cause trouble.
She had eaten her last meal this morning and was starving.
She gave most of the chicken in the bowl to Liu Aihong, using all sorts of sweet talk to coax her to eat.
My mother is so thin she looks like she could be blown away by a gust of wind; she needs to be properly nourished.
She wants to lose weight! Just eat a little something to soothe her rebellious stomach.
Liu Aihong was so pestered that she had no choice but to obediently eat it.
While drinking millet porridge, Luo Baiwan's gaze drifted to Luo Ning, and he lowered his head in thought.
The meal concluded in a harmonious atmosphere, with Liu Aihong and Luo Baiwan expressing their utmost satisfaction with the millet porridge.
Luo Jing patted her round belly and returned to bed, "I don't know when the next chicken meal will be..."
"Good luck and may we eat chicken tomorrow night!" Luo Ning said casually.
"Okay, let's have chicken tomorrow night!" Liu Aihong and Nuobaibai said in unison. Da Ya brought back two chickens, one of which was killed today, and there was still one left at home, which would be perfect for tomorrow's meal.
The doting father is back in action! Luo Ning smiled helplessly. "Mom and Dad, please have mercy. Don't make me a target of hatred anymore."
Luo Jing snorted coldly, her whole body radiating envy, jealousy, and hatred.
She believed her parents were capable of such a thing. Even if they didn't have chickens at home, they would do everything they could to get them for Luo Ning if she wanted to eat them. They had done this far too many times before.
After eating his fill, Luo Baiwan regained his energy and eagerly asked, "Da Ya, when did you learn to cook? I heard from your mother that you know medicine?"
Luo Ning felt like he'd been caught red-handed. In his haste to save the person, he hadn't considered the original owner's situation.
What should we do now?
