Chapter 576 - 266: Li Changqing in the Lamp
Chapter 576 - 266: Li Changqing in the Lamp
Night falls.
Li Hengsheng sits cross-legged, focusing on transforming his inner strength. After this period of cultivation, he has successfully transformed thirty percent of it.
He has retrieved his money, totaling several hundred thousand silver taels. He must wait for the next procurement group to return before he can have them procure rare treasures for him.
Everything seems fine in Ghost City, but high-end resources are scarce.
He has no choice but to send merchants elsewhere to make purchases.
"Hmm?"
At this moment, Li Hengsheng hears footsteps outside.
Someone’s approaching?
Li Hengsheng remains silent, but his hand is already on the Immortal-Extinguishing Spear.
"Knock, knock, knock."
Unexpectedly, a knocking sound comes from the door.
"Who is it?"
Li Hengsheng asks calmly.
"Fourth Brother, come out and play."
Lord Zhou’s voice comes from outside.
Li Hengsheng: "..."
He walks over and opens the door. Before he can say a word, Lord Zhou grabs him and leads him out of the City Lord’s Mansion.
Half an hour later.
On a small hill in the city, a campfire blazes with two chickens roasting over it. Lord Zhou shakes them and says, "What a shame, they’re just ordinary chickens. If they were Second Senior Sister’s Spirit Chickens, they’d be truly delicious."
"You called me out here just for this?" Li Hengsheng asks flatly.
"Isn’t it nice to drink and eat chicken?" Lord Zhou laughs, tearing off a chicken leg and handing it to Li Hengsheng, "Try it and see if my roasting skills have improved lately."
"If there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading back."
Li Hengsheng stands up, ready to leave.
"Hey!"
"When did you become such a spoilsport, Fourth Brother?" Lord Zhou asks, somewhat helplessly.
"Since you kicked me off the cliff." Li Hengsheng pauses and says quietly.
"Uh."
Lord Zhou is momentarily lost for words at Li Hengsheng’s retort, but seeing Li Hengsheng walk away, he speaks nonetheless: "Fourth Brother, come back. There’s something I need to tell you."
"Speak."
Li Hengsheng says.
"Here."
Lord Zhou tosses an item to Li Hengsheng.
It turns out to be a ball of paper.
Li Hengsheng unfolds it, seeing the words, "Thirty miles east of Ghost City, Ghost Corpse Cave."
"Ghost Corpse Cave?"
Li Hengsheng recalls looking at a map before and has some impression of this place. Previously a large tomb, it’s unknown who built it; though filled with corpses, none have ever found anything of value there. As such, it has been largely abandoned.
"The person who wants to meet you has set an appointment at noon tomorrow." Lord Zhou informs him.
"Understood."
Li Hengsheng replies, and with a flick of his wrist, the paper crumbles to dust. Without looking back, he leaves.
Sitting by the campfire, Lord Zhou looks at the chicken leg in his hand, stares for a while, then chuckles, "Just as stubborn as that brat."
"If you won’t eat it, I will."
With that, he takes a big bite.
Then he grabs the nearby wine jar, tilting his head back to take a long drink.
"It’s good wine."
"But drinking it alone is completely tasteless."
Lord Zhou stares at the campfire, swings his sleeve, and snuffs it out. The chicken leg is tossed aside as he disappears from the hill.
Back at the General’s Mansion, Li Hengsheng ponders over who this person mentioned by Lord Zhou could be.
At a time like this, who can truly be trusted?
He has enough to trade for a Painting Immortal-level treasure.
Who wouldn’t be tempted?
If he went to Ghost Corpse Cave, would he return safely?
Could this person betray him for a reward?
None of it can be certain.
In his current predicament, if someone could lend a hand, it would be most welcome.
Missing this opportunity could make things exceedingly difficult in the future.
Li Hengsheng decides to take a gamble.
Because he has no choice, and Lord Zhou has already made the gamble for him.
Knowing that he’s in Ghost City, even if he doesn’t seek out this person, they will come to Ghost City looking for him.
Potentially leading him into an even more perilous situation.
The next morning.
Li Hengsheng leaves Ghost City early.
By midday, he arrives near Ghost Corpse Cave.
This is a barren desert. Li Hengsheng buries himself in the sand, completely hiding his presence, to observe who might come at noon.
The time slowly passes.
Li Hengsheng watches the direction of Ghost Corpse Cave intently, yet no one appears.
Could the information be wrong?
Perhaps wait until evening.
But just then, a voice rings out above him: "Come out. This little trick may fool others, but not me."
Discovered?
Li Hengsheng is startled.
Even without revealing any aura, he has been found.
How could that be?
Li Hengsheng bursts out of the sand and warily observes the newcomer, but when he sees who it is, he can hardly believe his eyes.
"Vice Sect Leader." Li Hengsheng exclaims.
The person before him, clad in snow-white robes with flowing black hair and a stern gaze, with a Thousand Snow Sword at his waist, appears as a divine being among mortals.
Inviolate and revered!
Who else could it be but Xue Qianbai?
Li Hengsheng never imagined the person seeking him would be Xue Qianbai.
"It seems the informant was reliable; you’re truly here." Xue Qianbai states calmly, "Jiang Tianyun’s capability was indeed extraordinary. Before his death, he sent you here, and in the entire Cloud Wasteland, this is the only place you could have a chance to survive."
