Chapter 747 - 485: Rise of the Tomb, Wave of Terror Knights!
As the Tomb Undead under Fang Zhou’s command held no numerical advantage, the Undead Tactics Tidamia currently excelled at were essentially defensive counterattacks.
This involved a defensive Undead Battle Array that specialized in waiting for the enemy to advance. However, this formation was not purely defensive. The purpose of setting up a defensive Undead Battle Array was not to defend, but to lure the enemy into its core, creating a temporary, localized advantage. This advantage would then be used to gradually eliminate the enemy, who initially held the upper hand.
Watching Tidamia calmly command the Tomb Undead Army to viciously tear apart the zombie horde, devouring the isolated sections piece by piece, Fang Zhou relaxed and observed his commander’s composed leadership.
At the same time, Fang Zhou kept a close eye on the Giant Zombie Lord’s position. He wondered what the creature would do next. However, once Tidamia’s encirclement was complete, it would all be over. Even if the Giant Zombie Lord wanted to escape, it would be impossible for him to flee from Tidamia’s grasp.
Besides, even if he realized something was wrong early on and tried to flee, could he possibly outrun the Corpse Knights? Could he outrun Fang Zhou, who was mounted on the Yellow Springs Nightmare?
Indeed, the Giant Zombie Lord had not yet noticed that his army was already mired in a quagmire. By the time he realized it, it would be far too late. His mind was currently fixated on the enemy lord’s Soul Fire, consumed with thoughts of how such a prize could benefit his evolution.
And so, he chose to attack.
Leading his personal guards, he charged into the battle. The Giant Zombie Lord moved with incredible speed, crossing from the rear of the battlefield to the front line in what felt like an instant. During this mad dash, he encountered hardly any substantial resistance. This was because Tidamia had deliberately ordered the Tomb Undead concentrated in that sector to disperse, retreating at the slightest contact and never getting entangled with the enemy.
This left the Giant Zombie Lord somewhat confused. But having come this far, he was not about to give up. While the Soul Fire of an Undead Lord was not exceptionally useful, it could still provide a certain boost to his evolution. For a long time, he had felt his evolution come to a near standstill. He needed to absorb powerful Soul Fires to stimulate his own growth.
At this moment, Fang Zhou had already gathered nearly 2,000 Corpse Knights under his command. He watched coldly as the Giant Zombie Lord drew closer, lured step by step toward the central forces under Tidamia’s direction.
The Lord, however, was completely oblivious. As he advanced, his one thousand large Zombie Guards were intercepted for various reasons, picked off one by one and group by group. And so, these powerful Zombie Guards, all of whom were at the Bronze Middle Rank, were completely annihilated. They were encircled by the Tomb Undead, who, despite supposedly being outnumbered, now somehow seemed to be the overwhelming majority.
A few minutes passed. As he was about to reach the front of the central forces, the Giant Zombie Lord still had not faced any significant obstruction. Yet, the Zombie Guards at his side now numbered less than fifty.
Fifty?
Even the Giant Zombie Lord realized something was terribly wrong, but he could not comprehend what had happened. In truth, even if he had discovered Fang Zhou’s plan, it was already too late. The fifty that remained were no longer capable of ensuring his safety amidst such a vast army.
Generally speaking, the central forces should be the most heavily defended and strongest part of any army. This was no exception; Fang Zhou’s central forces were indeed his most formidable combat power.
Seeing the Giant Zombie Lord finally exposed before him, Fang Zhou suddenly raised the Poisonous Skeleton Long Spear in his hand.
With his command, the charge formation composed of 2,000 Corpse Knights surged out from the central forces like a torrent defying the laws of physics, moving with incredible speed!
The Corpse Knights were a charge-type Undead unit meticulously created by Fang Zhou, clad in Skeleton Heavy Armor and wielding razor-sharp lances. Once their charge began, they were extremely difficult to stop.
In the Era of Myth, there were only a few ways to halt a heavy cavalry charge.
One was a counter-charge line formed by a Long Spear Formation. The zombies had no such thing.
The second was a wall of heavy shield infantry, with rows upon rows of two-to-three-meter-tall, thick shields planted firmly on the ground. This required a massive number of soldiers to brace the shields with their bodies to withstand the impact, placing immense demands on both the quality of the shields and the strength of the soldiers. If the shields were not up to standard, they could never resist such a terrifying impact. If the soldiers lacked sufficient strength, the heavy cavalry charge would shatter their bones before trampling over their bodies. They did not have those either.
Another method was to use Armor-Piercing Heavy Arrows or Magic attacks, employing ranged means to inflict significant casualties before contact. As for that, the scattered Arrow Rain from the disorganized Skeleton Archers in the enemy’s formation posed no threat to the heavily-armored, shield-bearing Corpse Knight Order.
The final method was to use a terrain advantage. Here, too, there was none.
Therefore, the zombie army of 150,000, already stretched thin and pulled apart by Tidamia, had no way of withstanding the charge of the heavy cavalry team formed by the Corpse Knights.
What’s more, Fang Zhou himself led the charge. He served as the tip of the spear for this 2,000-strong heavy cavalry force, his own Power Attribute nearing 800. After multiple evolutions, Attribute Explosions, and with a perfect configuration of Skills, how could these weak zombies possibly resist him?
In an instant, the charge formation of 2,000 heavy cavalry moved like a scythe, reaping the fragile lives of the zombies as if they were mature wheat.
Fang Zhou sensed a manic, utterly manic battle intent emanating from these Corpse Knights. The Undead Creatures capable of subduing Undead Mounts and advancing to become Corpse Knights all possessed immense potential. On a normal day, with only one or two of them around, their craving for battle might not be apparent. But once they entered a mass battlefield and formed a tidal wave of heavy cavalry, the madness for slaughter hidden deep within their bodies and their very Soul Fires began to awaken.
Two thousand Corpse Knights let out a dull roar in unison, as if chanting a battle song as they charged toward the densely packed zombies. These ordinary, low-level Undead were utterly powerless to stop the Corpse Knights’ momentum. They tore through the zombies’ defensive line like sharp scissors cutting through paper.
But the Corpse Knights had no intention of stopping there.
The weapons in their hands were three-pronged, forked Knight’s Lances. These bone-forged lances were not heavy, but they were extraordinarily hard. A single thrust from a Corpse Knight would inevitably pierce through one or two zombies, but that was never the end. When a Knight’s Lance pierced a zombie’s body, the Corpse Knight would forcefully twist and churn the weapon, shredding the creature’s torso into a mangled wreck. Then, they would seek their next target.
The already crimson eyes of the Corpse Knights turned an even deeper shade of blood-red from the frenzied slaughter, as if veiled by a bizarre blood mist.
And charging at the very front, Fang Zhou was the most frenzied of them all.
The Poisonous Skeleton Long Spear in his hand was no mere decoration. It was far sharper and had a much longer blade than the Three-Pointed Lances wielded by the other Corpse Knights. Combined with Fang Zhou’s vastly superior strength and Death Energy, his instantaneous killing power far exceeded that of an ordinary Corpse Knight.
