Chapter 209 The Only Advantage
Chapter 209 The Only Advantage
"Have I been exposed? Or is someone secretly monitoring me?" Su Ming's heart was filled with confusion and anger. This feeling of being squeezed made him almost breathless. He didn't like this out-of-control situation, especially when he was forced into a dead end with seemingly no way out.
He listened intently. Echoes mingled with the sound of footsteps from the depths of the corridor, signaling the enemy's approach. Time flew by, each second a reminder of the impending danger. Su Ming knew he could no longer hide; he had to make a decision quickly.
"We have to find a way to get out." He gritted his teeth and forced himself to calm down. Now the only thing he could rely on was his understanding of the underground structure. He was more familiar with the terrain of this place than those pursuers. This was his only advantage.
He lowered his head and scanned his surroundings. The corridors were narrow and dim, seemingly leaving few options. But Su Ming knew that behind these seemingly dead-end passages lay many secret passages and hidden doors. If he found the right place, he could escape the eyes of his pursuers.
"Su Ming, you can't wait any longer," he whispered to himself. Past experience taught him that in life-or-death situations like this, delay would only worsen the situation. Every second of hesitation bought time for the enemy, and he had to be one step ahead.
Just as he was about to act, a vague fear suddenly struck him—what if this was a trap? The enemy's movements were so swift and precise, as if they had been planned long ago. And he, step by step, fell into their trap.
This sudden suspicion made Su Ming's heartbeat quicken again. He couldn't be sure how the enemy knew his whereabouts, but he knew very well that he was likely at the center of a huge conspiracy. This invisible pressure made him feel a little breathless.
"Damn it!" He cursed softly, the veins of his hand holding the dagger exposed and his knuckles white. He hated this passive situation and hated to act in a situation where the enemy was in the dark and he was in the light.
Just as he was about to take a step, a sharp sound of footsteps suddenly came from the passage behind him. The sound was rapid and powerful, like some kind of signal.
"They're coming!" Su Ming's heart suddenly tightened, and a cold glint flashed in his eyes. He knew he had few options left; the situation before him didn't allow him to hesitate any longer. He quickly turned and sprinted towards the right passage, his movements as swift as a cheetah.
The ground beneath his feet was rough and uneven, and the surrounding walls had begun to peel from years of dampness. The air was filled with the smell of decay. The walls on both sides of the passage seemed to crush him, and the feeling of oppression was always there.
"Can't turn back, can't stop!" Su Ming roared in his heart. He knew that the pursuers were behind him, and the end of this passage might be his only way out.
As he continued to increase his speed, the sound of the wind and his rapid breathing mixed in with each other, and the ground beneath his feet shook slightly. He could feel the footsteps behind him getting closer and closer. The enemy was accelerating, and each footstep was like a warning bell ringing in his ears.
"I have to get rid of them..." He gritted his teeth inwardly and quickly glanced around. Finally, he saw a slightly open side door in front of him. Behind the door was a narrow alley. The light inside was dim and it seemed that no one was passing by.
This is his only chance.
Su Ming suddenly spun sideways, his body as nimble as a cheetah, slithering through the small door. The alleyway behind the door was narrow and dim, and the air was filled with the stench of decay, but he didn't have time to dwell on it. He pressed himself against the wall, breathing rapidly, trying to disappear into the darkness.
The footsteps coming from behind were still hurried. The other party seemed to have realized that he had changed his route, but had not yet locked onto his position.
Su Ming held his breath, the dagger still tightly gripped in his hand, his eyes as sharp as a hawk's. He knew that if he was discovered, he would be in for a tough fight. At this point, he had no way out.
"Just bear with it for a while...they will pass." Su Ming told himself secretly, trying to calm his heartbeat.
The footsteps drew closer, and that suffocating feeling of oppression enveloped him once again. The enemy seemed to be tracking his presence, almost reaching his hiding place. Every nerve in Su Ming's body was tense to the extreme, and his body seemed to instantly enter a state of combat readiness.
Suddenly, the footsteps stopped at the alleyway behind him, and an eerie silence filled the air. Su Ming tilted his head slightly, glancing at the figure. The figure stood at the alleyway's entrance, his gun slightly raised, his eyes scanning the surroundings sharply, as if searching for anything unusual.
Su Ming's heart nearly beat out of his chest, but he remained completely calm. He knew that if he made even the slightest noise, he would be attacked fatally.
"I must be patient..." He kept repeating this sentence in his mind, as if to cheer himself up.
The shadowy figure paused at the alley entrance for a moment, seemingly not noticing anything unusual, before turning and heading in another direction. Su Ming finally heard the sound of receding footsteps, and his nerves relaxed slightly.
"Saved." He breathed a sigh of relief, but he knew in his heart that the danger was far from over. This was only a temporary respite, the enemy was still searching outside, and he needed to find a safe place to get rid of them completely.
Su Ming knew he couldn't stay here for long. He looked around again and saw that the tunnel ahead seemed to lead deeper into the underground system. The passage was narrow and deep, and the darkness seemed to swallow everything.
"This may be the only way out." He made a decision in his heart, gripped the dagger tightly, and walked towards the deep passage.
As he stepped deeper into the darkness, the air around him grew increasingly humid, and the water dripping from the walls made a gentle dripping sound, like a silent reminder. Su Ming's steps remained steady, each step in the right place, but his heart could not completely calm down.
He couldn't help but wonder if there were other traps waiting for him in this operation. And what kind of power did that mysterious weapon have that was worth these people taking such a huge risk to fight for it?
"Perhaps I underestimated the importance of this item," Su Ming thought to himself. He had never taken a mission lightly, but the current situation made him begin to doubt whether he could truly control the situation.
Su Ming stood in the corner across from the teahouse, his hands in his pockets. A cold wind blew through his collar, yet he felt no chill at all. His eyes were fixed on the closed door, his mind racing. He had received an order from his superiors to meet with an extremely mysterious figure—Old Zhang. This was not only a test for his organization, but also a choice he could not turn back from.
