Chapter 536 In Your Heart
Chapter 536 In Your Heart
Su Ming gritted his teeth, forcibly suppressing his nervousness, and followed him in. The room was simply furnished, the walls bare except for a few old-fashioned wooden tables and chairs. The soft light in the corner illuminated Zheng Yaoxian's aged face, but it did not obscure the powerful aura he exuded.
"Please sit down." Zheng Yaoxian motioned him to sit down, his voice low and calm.
Su Ming nodded slightly, sat down on one of the chairs, took a deep breath, and finally spoke: "Mr. Zheng, I came to you to seek advice. The current situation is beyond my ability. If I can't get any inspiration from you, I'm afraid... I'm afraid I will lose everything."
Zheng Yaoxian narrowed his eyes slightly and remained silent for a moment, as if weighing Su Ming's sincerity. After a long pause, he finally spoke, "Tell me what the situation is."
Su Ming recounted his current predicament in detail, from the enemy's layout, to the undercurrents within his own team, to the enemies lurking in the shadows. He analyzed every detail one by one, as if at this moment, he had poured all his burdens and helplessness into this man.
Zheng Yaoxian listened and remained silent for a moment before slowly speaking, "Your predicament stems from your excessive focus on external changes, neglecting your own inner potential. What you need isn't external force, but an inner awareness of the true gap between yourself and your enemy."
Su Ming was stunned, unable to fully grasp the deeper meaning behind Zheng Yaoxian's words. Seeing his confusion, Zheng Yaoxian continued slowly, "The situation you face now may seem intricate, but it's actually woven together from a series of simple ideas. If you want to escape this predicament, the first step is to re-examine these 'simple' elements and see the true connections between them."
He paused, his gaze piercing Su Ming's calmly. "Your greatest enemy in this struggle isn't those enemies, but your own fixed mindset. You often habitually interpret problems in your own way, but never truly attempt to empathize with them, to see things from their perspective, or even from the perspective of the entire situation."
Su Ming listened quietly, a feeling of enlightenment gradually rising in his heart. He felt that his previous thinking had indeed been stuck in a dead end, unable to extricate himself. Now, Zheng Yaoxian's words seemed to have given him a key, allowing him to re-evaluate his situation.
"Put yourself in their shoes..." he repeated softly.
"Yes." Zheng Yaoxian nodded, then added, "Remember, true wisdom doesn't see the furthest, but the clearest. They can unravel complexity and discover the essence behind things. If you want to escape, you must abandon your inherent judgment of the situation and act in the opposite direction."
Su Ming sat on the simple wooden chair, his hands gripping the armrests tightly, his heart pounding. Every word Zheng Yaoxian said was like a sharp knife, slicing through the neglected pain points in his heart. He'd heard these words before, but today, they felt like a key unlocking a long-dormant seal.
He knew his predicament wasn't simply the pressure of external enemies, but rather a form of self-perpetuation—a psychological shackle. The mystery that had plagued him for weeks was like an invisible hand, unable to escape. Every time he tried to think of a solution, it was obscured by an invisible mist, preventing him from seeing the full picture. Now, Zheng Yaoxian's guidance seemed to have parted a curtain, allowing him to finally see beyond.
Yet, the mystery still lingered. For weeks, he had been grappling with a single question: How had a clue, thought lost, resurfaced at this very moment? This mystery involved more than just an enemy conspiracy; it involved a force beyond his comprehension. All the clues pointed in one direction, yet the complete picture remained elusive. This sense of suspense had kept him awake for the past few nights, nearly bringing him to a breaking point.
He gritted his teeth secretly, thinking about how to sort out his thoughts.
"Don't you understand?" Zheng Yaoxian's voice broke the silence. His tone was still calm, but the majesty that could not be ignored made people listen carefully to every word he said next.
Su Ming was slightly startled, then looked up at Zheng Yaoxian. He didn't dare speak rashly, only frowning slightly. Zheng Yaoxian didn't seem anxious, his eyes fixed on Su Ming, as if waiting for a breakthrough.
"I know what you're thinking," Zheng Yaoxian continued, his tone surprisingly gentle. "You're trapped in an unbreakable deadlock. That mystery is like a bullet, piercing your heart and pinning you down. But you think you're pursuing the truth, but in reality, you're chasing an illusion."
Su Ming's heart sank, and he nearly stood up from his chair, but he forced himself to hold it back. His eyes instantly became complicated, a mixture of pain and confusion. That inexplicable feeling of oppression came over him like a tide, threatening to drown him.
"Illusion?" he finally asked in a low voice, his voice full of confusion and unwillingness.
"Yes." Zheng Yaoxian nodded, his tone calm and firm. "You always thought the core of the mystery was a missing piece of information or a mastermind behind it, but you were wrong. The real mystery lies not outside, but within you."
Su Ming's heart skipped a beat, as if Zheng Yaoxian had easily pierced something. The uneasiness and anxiety intensified, his head feeling as if it were tightly encircled, making it almost impossible to breathe. He tried to calm himself, taking a few deep breaths, but the oppressive feeling remained.
"Your enemy," Zheng Yaoxian said slowly, "is not those superficial people, but yourself. You have been avoiding one thing—you have not truly faced your own fears."
Su Ming fell silent, his fingers unconsciously digging into the armrests of his chair. He lowered his head, forcing his breathing to steady, but his mind was a tangle of thoughts. Enemy? Himself? He had never truly considered this. Could it be that what he had been pursuing wasn't a tangible mystery at all, but rather a certain fear within himself?
"Your mystery is your own self-doubt, your inner suspicion. You constantly question why you're in this predicament, why seemingly simple arrangements always go awry." Zheng Yaoxian's voice remained steady, his gaze fixed on Su Ming. "You ask yourself why, despite trying so hard, you can't control the situation. You believe the problem lies externally, in conspiracies beyond your reach, yet you never ask yourself: If you could start over, could you do better?"
