Chen Yile still felt a tingling sensation on his arm, and the strange light from the jade pendant kept him awake all night.
He got up early before dawn, trying to keep himself busy to ease his inner anxiety.
He stood at the window, looked at the gray sky outside, and took a deep breath.
There seemed to be a faint fishy smell in the air, which made him feel nauseous.
"Xiao Le! Have breakfast quickly!" Mother's voice came from downstairs.
Chen Yile came to his senses and hurried downstairs. On the dining table stood a bowl of steaming porridge and a few side dishes. He mechanically picked up the spoon, but found he had no appetite at all.
"Xiao Le, what's wrong with you?" the mother asked with concern. "You look so bad."
"Nothing." Chen Yile forced a smile, "Maybe I didn't sleep well last night."
The mother frowned but didn't ask any questions. The father ate breakfast silently, seemingly unaware of his son's mood changes.
After breakfast, Chen Yile, backpack on, prepared to go to school. Standing at the doorway, he glanced back at the old residential building. The hallway was still dark and damp, and the air was filled with a musty smell.
"Xiao Le! Wait!" His mother suddenly called him.
Chen Yile turned around and saw his mother holding a cloth bag. "This is what your grandma left for you. I never had the chance to give it to you," his mother said.
Chen Yile took the cloth bag and found that besides the jade pendant, there was also a letter with his name written on it with a brush.
"Grandma said this jade pendant can keep you safe," my mother said softly. "Take good care of it."
Chen Yile nodded and stuffed the cloth bag into his schoolbag. He looked up at the sky. The sun had just risen, and the golden sunlight shone on his face. But he felt that the sunlight was extremely dazzling.
On the way to school, Chen Yile was still in a heavy mood. He tried to focus on his upcoming new life, but the scene of the jade pendant glowing last night kept appearing in his mind.
"Maybe I'm too nervous." He said to himself.
However, this strange feeling did not disappear. He always felt that there was a pair of eyes watching him in the dark.
Finally arriving at school, Chen Yile breathed a sigh of relief.
The campus is full of youthful atmosphere. A group of students are playing basketball on the playground, and laughter can be heard one after another.
He followed the instructions and found the teaching office to prepare to go through the admission procedures.
The teacher from the teaching department received him warmly and helped him arrange classes and seats.
"Your homeroom teacher is Ms. Li." The teacher handed him a campus map. "She will introduce herself to you in the first period this afternoon."
Chen Yile nodded and walked towards the teaching building with the map.
He observed his surroundings as he walked, trying to familiarize himself with this new place as quickly as possible.
After school, Chen Yile dragged his tired body back home, and his father asked him how school was going.
"It's OK." Chen Yile replied perfunctorily, "The teachers and classmates are all very friendly."
His father nodded and continued watching TV, while Chen Yile walked silently into his room.
Lying on the bed, Chen Yile stared at the ceiling in a daze. The jade pendant was still in his schoolbag, but he didn't dare take it out to look at it.
Although the pain in his arm had subsided, he still felt like something was watching him from the dark.
Just then, he heard footsteps in the corridor. The footsteps were light, but clearly audible. He subconsciously pricked up his ears to listen.
The footsteps gradually approached his door.
"Who's there?" he shouted.
No one responded.
Chen Yile's heartbeat suddenly accelerated, and he felt cold sweat on his palms. He tried to convince himself that it was just an illusion, but the strange feeling became stronger and stronger.
Suddenly, he felt another sharp pain in his arm.
He sat up suddenly and found that the jade pendant had fallen out of his schoolbag and was lying on the floor, emitting a faint light.
"What's going on?" he muttered to himself.
The symbols on the jade pendant seemed to tremble slightly, emitting a strange energy. Chen Yile felt a chill rising from his spine, and he subconsciously wanted to escape the room.
Just then, the door was suddenly pushed open.
"Xiao Le? What's wrong with you?" Mother's voice came from outside the door.
Chen Yile came to his senses and saw his mother standing at the door with a worried look on her face.
"Nothing." He said calmly, "Maybe I'm just too tired."
His mother walked into the room and touched his forehead. "Do you have a fever? It feels a little hot."
"It's okay." Chen Yile quickly dodged, "Maybe I just over-exercised."
The mother frowned, but didn't ask any more questions. She turned and left the room, not forgetting to close the door before leaving.
Chen Yile slumped on the ground, staring at the jade pendant in his hand in a daze.
The light on the jade pendant gradually dimmed, but he always felt that this jade pendant was not simple.
"What on earth is this jade pendant?" he muttered to himself.
Just then, his cell phone suddenly rang. He took it out and saw a message from Teacher Li: "Xiao Le, please come to the office after school tomorrow."
Chen Yile's heart tightened, but he still replied: "Okay, teacher."
The next day after school, Chen Yile went to the homeroom teacher's office as agreed. Teacher Li was grading homework and smiled when she saw him come in.
"Xiao Le, please sit down." Teacher Li pointed to the chair next to him.
After Chen Yile sat down, he noticed that Teacher Li's gaze seemed a little complicated. "Xiao Le..." Teacher Li said, "I noticed that you haven't been in a good state these past few days."

By the time Chen Yile left the office, it was completely dark. The streetlights were on, stretching his shadow very long. As he walked, he thought about Teacher Li's words.

After returning home, Chen Yile went straight into his room. He carefully placed the jade pendant on the bedside, then lay down on the bed and tried to fall asleep.
