Chapter 174 Rock Forest
Chapter 174 Rock Forest
Nangong Jingming walked resolutely in the direction he had chosen. The sun scorched the earth mercilessly, and the heat waves in the desert came one after another. His forehead was covered with beads of sweat, which slid down his cheeks and dripped onto the scorching sand, disappearing in an instant.
After walking for a long time, he felt his throat was so dry that it was about to smoke, so he stopped, took out the water bottle from his backpack, and carefully drank a small sip. The coolness of the water refreshed him, but he also knew that he had to save this precious water resource.
As he continued on his way, he occasionally saw strangely shaped dunes, some resembling giant castles, others like winding dragons. However, these sights did not ease his mood; instead, they made him even more vigilant. In this unfamiliar desert, no one knew what danger might come next.
Suddenly, a dark cloud appeared in the distant sky. Nangong Jingming's heart tightened, not knowing whether this was a new crisis or a turning point. As the dark cloud approached, the wind blew violently, and dust flew all over the sky. He hurriedly covered his mouth and nose with a scarf to resist the invasion of the wind and sand. The wind was howling, as if it was going to drag him into an endless abyss. Nangong Jingming held on to his backpack tightly, trying to steady himself and not let himself be blown away by the wind and sand.
As the sandstorm died down, he opened his eyes and discovered that the scenery around him had changed. Huge rocks appeared in the previously flat desert. These rocks varied in shape, some resembling ferocious monsters, others like mysterious sculptures. Nangong Jingming approached these rocks cautiously, trying to find some clue or a way out of the desert.
He moved back and forth among the rocks, his heart filled with hope and anxiety. The test of the desert continued, and he didn't know how much longer he had to walk before he found a way out.
He slowly climbed atop a tall rock, his posture slender and steady. Standing there, he observed his surroundings intently. The rocks before him were arranged in a patchwork pattern, like a mysterious maze. The intricate layout left him feeling bewildered, and for a moment, he was unsure how to escape. However, he soon found a higher rock. Like a beacon towering between heaven and earth, it offered him a glimmer of hope. He pondered, deciding to climb the highest rock first, hoping to find his way forward.
Without hesitation, he leaped off the rock and walked with determined steps toward the place he had seen. The long journey had worn him down, and when he felt tired, he stopped and pulled a bright red apple from his backpack. These apples had been carefully prepared for them by Su Siyi, so he wasn't worried about food. However, his water reserves were low, and knowing how precious it was, he naturally decided to use it sparingly.
Although the place he saw seemed very close from a distance, it actually took him a full hour to walk there with difficulty.
When he finally climbed to the top of the highest rock and looked down, the scene before him shocked him.
It turned out to be a vast expanse of rocky ground, its size probably comparable to the desert he had just crossed. It seemed that he had left the desert and arrived in this challenging rocky land.
His purpose in coming to this high place was to determine a direction to move forward and then continue to move forward bravely. In the following journey, after walking for more than an hour, he suddenly felt a little worried, afraid that he had gone in the wrong direction.
To ensure he was always heading in the right direction, he would periodically climb up the rocks to recheck his bearings. Otherwise, he felt he could easily get lost in this maze-like rock forest. Fortunately, he always had a good sense of direction, which gave him more confidence in difficult situations. At this moment, he couldn't help but think of Su Siyi. He wondered if her sense of direction was good enough, and he sincerely hoped she would be able to take it easy in the face of this test.
A long day passed, and he tried his best, but in the end he still couldn't get out of this vast rocky forest.
By now, it was completely dark. Continuing to walk in this dim light was clearly unwise. So, he stopped and pulled his tent from his backpack. He pressed a button, and the tent automatically began to erect. Soon, a sturdy and comfortable tent appeared before him. He then pulled out a box of self-heating rice and prepared to enjoy dinner.
After the tent was set up, he couldn't wait to get in. This tent was like a warm little home, equipped with many things, making him feel like he was out on a trip instead of a mission.
This tent is really great. The temperature inside is just right, neither cold nor hot. It instantly allows him to escape from the harsh outside environment into a comfortable little world.
Fifteen minutes later, his dinner was heated up. He quickly finished it, ate an apple, and then lay down to sleep. He knew that the tent had some defensive functions, so he could sleep peacefully. Otherwise, he was really worried that he would not have enough energy to continue the journey tomorrow.
He hadn't encountered any major danger all day, except for the strong wind that brought him here. He hadn't encountered any animals either, which was a bit strange to him, but it was best not to encounter any.
The night passed quietly, with no sign of interruption, which made Nangong Jingming feel puzzled. In fact, he had not entered a deep sleep last night, but remained alert, constantly aware of the outside world. After all, he knew that he was in a test and must be prepared for any emergency. If anything happened, he would be able to react immediately.
At daybreak, Nangong Jingming quickly rose, methodically packed his bag, and resolutely set out on his journey. He keenly sensed that the current test seemed more of a test of his willpower. However, this was nothing to him; he firmly believed he could persevere.
In this way, Nangong Jingming continued to move forward, stopping and starting, and constantly resting and adjusting. During the long three days, he always maintained a firm pace and moved towards his goal step by step.
