Chapter 308: Storm is coming in Jiajing’s court...
In the 24th year of the Wanli reign of the Ming Dynasty, Yuan Hongdao, then Magistrate of Wu County, wrote to Dong Qichang: "Where did you get the "Jin Ping Mei"? I read it briefly while lying on my pillow. The page is full of clouds and mist. It is much better than Mei Sheng's "Qi Fa". Where is the latter part? Where should I change the copy? I hope you can show me."
This is the earliest record of the handwritten copy of "Jin Ping Mei".
Although Xu Jie and Wang Shizhen of the Jiajing and Longqing dynasties kept handwritten copies, they did not leave a single word. Over the past few hundred years, scholars have speculated on more than 60 possible names of Lanling Xiaoxiaosheng, but all of them are uncertain.
Currently, there are three main versions of "Jin Ping Mei".
The first is the Cihua version, also known as the Wanli version. In the 45th year of the Wanli reign, the Jin Ping Mei Cihua was first published and is considered the earliest existing version. It contains a large number of poems, lyrics, and rhymes, with a distinct folk singing flavor.
The second is the Chongzhen edition, also known as the embroidered illustration edition. During the Chongzhen period, an anonymous person significantly revised the Cihua edition and added hundreds of woodcut illustrations, thus creating the Newly Engraved Embroidered Illustrations of the Golden Lotus.
The third is Zhang's commentary version, also known as the first strange book version. In the 34th year of Emperor Kangxi's reign, Zhang Zhupo used the Chongzhen version as the base and published his own comments of more than 100,000 words in "Gao Hetang's Commentary on the First Strange Book Jin Ping Mei".
<Yuan Hongdao, one of the three Yuans of Gong'an. He was previously mentioned by the Ming Dynasty's school of thought. He was the leader of the anti-retrogression movement in Ming Dynasty literature.>
<"Life is very hard as an official, and being a magistrate is even harder. Being a magistrate in Wu is a million times harder, worse than working like an ox or a horse." He probably wrote this. Anyway, I think it's really hard to work now, and when you get a salary of two or three thousand and only have one day off, it's even harder, worse than working like an ox or a horse [crying]>
<Anyway, there are too many opinions about the research on Lanling Xiaoxiaosheng. Basically, they all say that it was written by famous scholars during the Jiajing period, and the most influential ones are Wang Shizhen, Xu Wei, Feng Menglong, etc.>
<There is also the story of Xu Jie in this, which is not surprising at all. After all, Xu Jie's son Xu Fan had to ask someone to write for him in the provincial examination. And Xu Jie was no less corrupt than Yan Song. He accumulated a lot of wealth in his hometown by plundering the people. Although he got rid of Yan Song, it is an exaggeration to say that he was a famous minister in the middle of the Ming Dynasty.>
<Let’s not talk about Wang Shizhen, but how could it be Xu Wei and Feng Menglong? From Xu Wei’s life experience, he had a miserable life. He lived a very poor life in his later years and later suffered from mental illness. Moreover, he was from Zhejiang. The author of Jin Ping Mei guessed that he was probably from Shandong. Because Lanling is probably a place name, in Lanling Town, Lanling County, Shandong.>
<Feng Menglong’s words… the time is not right, he was born in the second year of Wanli [covering face] >
<Hasn't this been published so many times? Why is it still banned?>
<It is too realistic, not something ordinary people should see. [Eat melon]>
<In conclusion, this book is about Cheng-Zhu Neo-Confucianism that harms people.>
[Wang Shizhen: It's not me]
[Xu Wei: It's not me] in the 27th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty
[Feng Menglong in the third year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty: It can’t be me]

[Emperor Jiajing of Ming Dynasty, Zhu Houcong: I took it over from my cousin. When I first took it over, the government affairs... [shakes his head]]
[Ming Hongwu Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang: Both of you shut up...]
[Emperor Gaozu of Han Liu Bang: The story of the Ming Dynasty is really interesting. Not only is it interesting in the video, but even in the comments, you can see the real people being funny.]
……
Tang Dynasty, 25th year of Kaiyuan
Gao Shi, Du Fu and Li Bai, who were traveling around the world together, met Meng Haoran during the trip. Li Bai and Meng Haoran already knew each other, and Li Bai also wanted to live in seclusion in the mountains, so he also traveled around the Tang Dynasty with them.
Not long after, he met Li Mi, the future prime minister who was highly praised by Guangmu.
Then the group of people had a great time chatting with each other... drinking, writing poetry, discussing their ideals, and denouncing the shortcomings of the government.
More people traveled around the Tang Dynasty looking for answers to save the country.
“Do they work so hard?”
"Although I don't quite understand how much silver I will earn in the future, but the meaning should be that the income is less silver, and there will be less time to rest."
"No wonder they say he is worse than cattle and horses."
"Has the lives of the people remained unchanged after a thousand years?"
"No, it shouldn't be..."
Several people talked about this topic for a long time, but they were still confused.
They hoped that the light curtain could answer their questions.
……
------
Ming Dynasty, the 27th year of Jiajing
The light curtain clearly did not talk about state affairs, but every word was talking about state affairs.
A few words on the screen made everyone in Jiajing's court feel insecure.
Emperor Jiajing Zhu Houcong first asked someone to investigate Xu Jie's son Xu Fan. As far as he knew, Xu Jie's son had not yet passed the imperial examination.
Next, he ordered a thorough investigation of the Xu family. He was not afraid of his subordinates being greedy, but he did not like people saying that others were greedy when he himself could not put his words into practice.
Looking at the conversation with his cousin Zhu Houzhao on the screen, Zhu Houcong knew that he was not wrong. The Ming Dynasty had been on the decline for a long time, and it was extremely difficult to completely cure such a huge empire.
...
Wang Shizhen was slightly surprised. There were two factions in the court, the Yan Party headed by Yan Song, and the Qingliu Faction.
But since Yan Song and Yan Shifan have been mentioned many times by the Guangmu, most of the comments on the Guangmu are unpopular with them, saying that they are extremely corrupt and are a cancer in the court. Regardless of whether it is because of the Guangmu or something else, in the past two years, the Yan Party has not been as strong as before.
I didn't expect that among the Qingliu faction that had just risen, there would be someone like Yan Song.
He didn't know much about Xu Jie's hometown, but the fact that his son hired someone to write for him was now exposed to the world...
His son's life is ruined, and his fame and official career may end here.
...
"I thought Xu Jie was so capable, but it turns out his son gave us such a big surprise."
"Hahaha."
"There's no need to rush to deal with him."
"This matter has always been a thorn in your Majesty's heart, and it is not easy to remove it."
Yan Song and his son Yan Shifan were happy as they could finally take a breath.
They have been following His Majesty for so many years, what do they think about His Majesty? They can roughly guess that in His Majesty's mind, corruption is not a big deal, because it depends on whether he knows...
...
Xia Yan and Yan Song engaged in a fierce political struggle during this year as they competed for the position of prime minister.
Xu Jie is also a person Xia Yan values, so he must be protected no matter what.
After Zhang Juzheng's life was revealed by the light curtain, he was recognized as one of his own by Emperor Jiajing Zhu Houcong. This talent should not only be vigorously cultivated, but also allowed to play an important role in the Jiajing Dynasty.
All in all, the Jiajing Dynasty was about to be in trouble.
Moreover, it also implies a large-scale transformation.
