Chapter 266 Sunday Market
Chapter 266 Sunday Market
After Yan Xun woke up, he heard some noises.
He immediately got up, went to the window, and saw that many stalls had been set up in front of the white house where they had their gathering.
It looks like a weekend market.
Yan Xun came downstairs in her slippers and found her parents already sitting at the dining table. Her father was reading the newspaper and her mother was watching TV. Hearing Yan Xun's footsteps, they looked up and called out, "Come and eat quickly."
Yan Xun glanced at the mail slot on the door. "Has no new rule been introduced?"
"I did receive a new letter this morning," Mom said, handing a note to Yan Xun. "But it's not a rule."
Yan Xun opened the note and saw that it was written in cute handwriting—
Enjoy the weekend market!
Below is a drawing of a clown holding a balloon.
Yan Xun looked at it several times to confirm that there was only this information on both sides.
He pulled out a chair and sat down next to his mother. "The weekend market, is it the one near the White House?"
“Yes,” Mom said. “I heard the noise this morning.”
“It must be very lively.” She said, looking at Yan Xun’s father, “Let’s go take a look.”
"By the way, you can ask your uncle to come along."
“We’ll take Shuangshuang with us,” Mom said.
"I was just thinking of buying some spices, I wonder if I can find any at the market."
Yan Xun looked at the breakfast placed in front of him... Today's breakfast was bread, eggs, and sausage. He poked at the sunny-side-up egg with his fork. "Didn't they say there would be new rules every day?"
Why isn't it here today?
"Weekends are for relaxing," Dad said dismissively, looking at the newspaper without glancing at Yan Xun.
After a while, Lou Yanchuan also came out of his room. He had changed into his outdoor clothes. After greeting Yan Xun's family, he naturally turned his wheelchair and came to Yan Xun's side.
Yan Xun handed him the note.
Lou Yanchuan glanced at the note and nodded.
"Yan Xun, go and call Shuangshuang." Mom looked up. "Why aren't you up yet?"
Yan Xun pushed back his chair and stood up. "I'll go call her."
He went back upstairs and stood in front of Shuangshuang's door. Just as he was about to knock, Shuangshuang's door opened—
"I want to go to the market!" Shuangshuang said, bouncing around. "Hurry up!"
"I just saw that they seem to be selling baby rabbits over there."
Yan Xun pressed Shuangshuang down, "Go downstairs to eat first." He added, "Your parents will take you later."
Shuangshuang's mind was entirely on the market at the moment, and she couldn't pay attention to what Yan Xun was saying. As soon as she got downstairs, she sat at the dining table and devoured the food. After she was full, she kept clamoring that she wanted to go to the market.
Yan Xun's parents had also finished breakfast. "Let's take Shuangshuang to the market first."
"Come over when you're done eating."
Yan Xun nodded as he sat at the dining table, and Lou Yanchuan also smiled and said, "Let's take Shuangshuang first; she seems very excited."
After the family of three left, Yan Xun put down his fork. "Why is there suddenly a weekend market?"
"I don't know, let's go check first." Lou Yanchuan took out his phone and placed it on the table. "Some people in the group have already gone to the market."
Yan Xun glanced at the photos posted in the group chat.
The photo was taken with a buzz cut. The market sells all sorts of things, including rabbits and a goldfish scooping stall.
Some goldfish were packed in plastic bags and hung on the stall by the shop owner.
In addition, there are stalls selling various snacks, fresh fruits and vegetables, and daily necessities.
What shocked Yan Xun the most was the "carousel" in the center of the market that the man with the buzz cut photographed.
[Buzz cut: Holy crap, awesome, that's a real horse!]
Beneath the pointed, colorful dome, there were horses tied together.
Like donkeys pulling a millstone, they also rotate around the central pillar, with children sitting on their backs, letting them move slowly.
Yan Xun zoomed in and out of the photos, then looked up at Lou Yanchuan and asked, "Is the open space in front of the white house really this big?"
The market here, and the space extending beyond it, is more than three times the size of that open space.
Yan Xun couldn't understand how the real horse carousel had been transported to the open space in front of the White House so quietly.
After all, he came home very late last night, and he was sure that there was nothing in that open space before he got home.
“Perhaps it’s magic,” Lou Yanchuan said.
That's true, Yan Xun thought, this place isn't the real world to begin with.
There's no need to imagine everything here using the rules of reality.
He stood up to collect his finished plate and put the remaining dirty dishes into the dishwasher.
When he returned to the dining table, Lou Yanchuan had also finished eating. He didn't bother Yan Xun, but he struggled to turn his wheelchair with one hand and hold the plate with the other...
Yan Xun watched him enter the restaurant and then watch him return to the table. "I thought you would ask me for help?"
Lou Yanchuan shrugged. "I can do it."
He then looked at Yan Xun and said, "They all seem to be at the market; we can meet up there."
……
Perhaps the weekend really is a time for rest.
Yan Xun encountered neither dense fog nor strange neighbors along the way.
Instead, he arrived at the market entrance very smoothly. He looked up at the huge "Weekend Market" sign, then looked down at Lou Yanchuan in his wheelchair. "Where to?"
Lou Yanchuan pointed to the goldfish stall, "Let's go take a look over there."
Upon hearing this, Yan Xun pushed Lou Yanchuan toward the goldfish stall.
A crowd gathered around the inflatable pool where people could scoop up goldfish.
The price was written on the blackboard: "20 yuan for three nets." Yan Xun glanced at the price, then looked at the goldfish in the inflatable pool.
The goldfish in the pond come in all sizes, the longest being about 10 centimeters, while the smaller ones are probably not even half the length of a finger.
Yan Xun watched for a while, then suddenly felt a little eager to try it out—
"You wait for me."
He took out 20 yuan and handed it to the owner behind the stall.
The boss handed him a plastic basin and three paper nets, and explained the rules to him.
Yan Xun, holding the paper net, turned to look at Lou Yanchuan, "Which one do you want?"
Lou Yanchuan sat in his wheelchair, some distance from the crowd. He seemed surprised that Yan Xun would turn around and ask him a question. His expression betrayed his astonishment.
"I?"
He pointed to himself, still somewhat incredulous.
"Who else could it be?" Yan Xun asked.
He glanced back at the pool, "I'll catch one and give it to you."
Lou Yanchuan sat in his wheelchair, his hands clenching and unclenching, finally pointing to a white goldfish in the pool, "That one."
"I want the white one."
That fish was probably the biggest one in the pond... Yan Xun glanced at the paper net in her hand, which was no bigger than a teacup lid, and the white goldfish that was clearly larger than the paper net. She suddenly suspected that Lou Yanchuan was making things difficult for her.
Once released, there's no reason to take it back.
Yan Xun squatted down, holding the basin in one hand while staring at the white goldfish swimming around.
When the goldfish came to his side, he immediately took action—
However, the goldfish was too big, and the fragile paper net was torn with a large hole after the goldfish struggled for a while.
