Chapter 26 The Tumultuous Journey Home and a New Mission
Xuanyuan Che and Su Yao embarked on their journey home with the crystal ball and precious records, but the journey was not smooth sailing.
They had barely left the forest where the mysterious ruins were located when they were caught in a rare downpour. The rain triggered flash floods, turning the already narrow mountain path into a muddy and treacherous mess. The guards carefully helped Xuan Yuanche and Su Yao as they struggled along the slippery mountain path.
"Your Highness, the weather is terrible. We need to find somewhere to take shelter," a guard called out. Xuanyuan Che looked up at the sky and nodded in agreement. They found a cave halfway up the mountain and hurriedly entered to take refuge.
The cave was dark and damp. Su Yao was worried that the crystal ball would lose its power if it got damp, so she took out a piece of dry silk from her bag and gently wrapped the crystal ball in it. Just then, a noisy commotion came from outside the cave.
Xuanyuan Che gripped his sword hilt warily, signaling his guards to prepare for battle. A group of bandits appeared in front of the cave; their eyes gleamed with greed when they saw Xuanyuan Che and his companions.
"Oh, I didn't expect there to be so many fat sheep in this cave. Hand over all your valuables, or don't blame us for being impolite!" the bandit leader shouted. Xuan Yuanche sneered, "You bunch of rabble, how dare you act so presumptuously here."
Having said that, he charged out of the cave first, his sword drawn, its light illuminating the rain outside. The bandits swarmed forward, but Xuan Yuanche displayed exquisite swordsmanship, weaving through the rain like a dragon, each strike repelling several bandits. The guards, not to be outdone, engaged the bandits in fierce combat.
Observing the battle from inside the cave, Su Yao noticed that although the bandits were numerous, their fighting strength was not strong. She devised a plan, picked up some stones from the cave, and used her spiritual power to throw them. The stones hit the bandits' pressure points with pinpoint accuracy, causing them to fall to the ground.
After a fierce battle, the bandits were all subdued. Xuanyuan Che and his companions continued their journey home.
Upon returning to the palace, Xuanyuan Che summoned the court's key officials and wise men, recounting his journey to the mysterious ruins and the power of the crystal ball. The officials, upon hearing this, discussed it animatedly; some expressed concern, while others were filled with anticipation.
"Your Majesty, this mysterious power may benefit the country, but if not properly controlled, it could trigger internal strife," an old minister said worriedly. Xuanyuan Che nodded and said, "I also know this matter is of great importance, which is why I have summoned you all to discuss it together."
Su Yao stepped forward and said, "We found some records about this power in the ruins. As long as we select suitable talents and train them rigorously, we will definitely be able to control this power and use it for the country."
Therefore, Xuanyuan Che ordered the selection of talented and virtuous young people nationwide to form a special team dedicated to researching and manipulating the power of the crystal ball. Su Yao personally served as their mentor, teaching them how to use spiritual power and related knowledge.
During the selection process, they discovered a young man named Lin Yu. Lin Yu came from an ordinary background, but possessed exceptional talent, with a perception and control of spiritual energy far exceeding that of ordinary people. Xuan Yuanche and Su Yao placed high hopes on him and focused on nurturing him.
However, as the research into the crystal ball's power deepened, some strange phenomena began to appear. Some of the researchers suddenly fell into comas, while others underwent drastic personality changes. Su Yao suspected that the power within the crystal ball was having a negative impact on them, and she decided to delve deeper into the research to find a solution.
During her research, Su Yao discovered a subtle connection between the power within the crystal ball and the spiritual energy channels in the human body. If not properly guided, this could lead to spiritual energy disorder. She began adjusting her training methods, guiding students to communicate with the power of the crystal ball in a gentler, more gradual manner.
Meanwhile, neighboring countries learned of Xuanyuan Che's nation's acquisition of mysterious power, fueling their jealousy and fear. They began amassing troops along the border, poised for action. Upon receiving this intelligence, Xuanyuan Che strengthened border defenses while simultaneously accelerating his research and application of the crystal ball's power. He knew a new crisis was imminent, and they must be fully prepared to protect their nation, its people, and this hard-won, mysterious power.
