Chapter 334 Pathfinding
Chapter 334 Finding the Way
As they walked, a wide river appeared ahead, flowing turbulently like an angry beast. The river was so rapid it was frightening, and it also emitted a strange light, as if some mysterious magic was surging within it.
The soldier cautiously stepped forward, gently probing the river's depth with his weapon. However, when he dipped his weapon into the water, he was astonished to find that he couldn't reach the bottom at all; the river was practically a bottomless abyss! For a moment, everyone was filled with worry, unsure how to cross this dangerous river.
Just then, the sharp-eyed thieves spotted a seemingly dilapidated but actually very sturdy wooden boat on the riverbank. Despite weathering many storms, the boat remained as strong as ever. Overjoyed, the group rushed over and, together, slowly pushed the boat into the river.
Just as they were about to board the boat and begin their river crossing, suddenly, a monstrous surge of water erupted from the calm surface, and an enormous water monster burst forth from the river. Its massive body blotted out the sky, and its ferocious face was terrifying. It opened its blood-red maw and let out a deafening roar, warning the expedition team that they were absolutely forbidden from crossing the river.
Faced with the threat of the water monster, the warrior gripped his weapon, stepped forward at the bow, and shouted, "We must cross the river! If you obstruct us, don't blame me for being ruthless!" The water monster roared again, its massive claws slamming towards the boat. The mage hastily cast a shield spell, barely managing to block the attack. Taking advantage of this opening, the thief swiftly circled behind the water monster, drew his dagger, and stabbed it in the back. The water monster, in pain, turned to attack the thief. At that moment, the archer drew his bow and shot an arrow into the water monster's eye. The water monster shook its head in agony. Seizing the opportunity, the warrior leaped high and plunged his weapon into the monster's head. After struggling for a moment, the water monster collapsed and sank into the river. Everyone breathed a sigh of relief and prepared to board the boat to cross. But their joy was short-lived; the river, which had just calmed, began to churn again. It turned out that this water monster was merely a guardian beast; the real test was yet to come. A maze formed by the flowing water gradually appeared on the river's surface, constantly changing shape. The group exchanged determined glances and decided to explore the maze together to find the way to the other side.
Faced with such a terrifying sea monster, a sense of panic arose in everyone's hearts. However, the brave magician stepped forward calmly, attempting to communicate with the ferocious creature. The magician politely explained to the monster that they were merely a group of adventurers passing through the area, on their way to find a legendary artifact.
Hearing the magician's words, the water monster ceased its attack, its enormous eyes darting around as if in thought. After a long silence, the monster spoke, "That artifact should never have been touched by you mortals. If you insist on proceeding, even greater dangers await you." The warrior stepped forward and said, "Even if the road ahead is fraught with thorns, we must try." The water monster was silent for a moment, then said, "In that case, I will give you a hint. Each time this water maze changes, one core node remains constant. Once you find and destroy it, the maze will vanish." The group thanked the water monster and entered the maze. The warrior, with his strong physique, led the way, while the thief used his agility to search for possible nodes. The magician and archer remained vigilant against any potential dangers. After some searching and experimentation, the thief finally discovered an anomaly. The warrior, with a powerful strike, successfully destroyed the core node. The maze vanished instantly, and a wide river reappeared. Excitedly, the group boarded a small boat and rowed towards the opposite bank, where unknown new challenges awaited them.
